POSITION TITLE:  Special Education Behavior Lead, K-8

REPORTS TO:  Special Education Board Certified Behavior Analyst

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of the Special Education Behavior Lead is to foster a positive school culture by implementing programs and processes that support Special Education students as listed in their Individualized Education Plan and Behavior Intervention Plans as it aligns with the mission, vision, and pillars of DaVinci Academy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Special Education Behavior Lead is responsible for implementing programming, strategies, and interventions to support positive student behavior and promote a safe and conducive learning environment for students identified as needing individualized support. This role involves collaborating in classrooms in real time with staff to build the capacity of response to special education student behavior.
 

  • Provide training and support to help special education students become more successful with behaviors.

  • Assist teachers and other staff with special education student behavior management that occurs in classrooms and common spaces

  • Via a push in model, Implement behavior intervention plans for special education students

  • Immediately address special education students’ inappropriate behaviors

  • Collaborate with case manager/teachers in real time and debriefs to develop strategies for proactive behavior interventions

  • Assist the special education team in the supervision of special education identified students, including discipline and behavior

  • Help special education staff create behavior goals that are measurable and set high expectations

  • Maintain discipline records for special education students

  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions with special education students

  • Collect data as necessary for behavioral interventions

  • Lead and complete investigations involving special education student conduct and review behavior intervention plans in relation to any investigations

  • Be discreet and respectful of confidential information

  • Demonstrate a warm and receptive attitude toward all students

  • Ability to identify, interpret and comply with school policies and procedures

  • Show initiative and function as a self-starter

  • Provide training and guidance to the special education support staff regarding behaviors and support special education students during lunch and recess time as needed

  • Communicate and meet with parents regarding special education student behavior

  • Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions as directed

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of leadership and management principles;

  • Ability to assist in hiring and supervising staff effectively;

  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and function under very stressful situations;

  • Ability to deal with and resolve difficult problems independently;

  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines, policies, and procedures consistently;

  • Ability to process and use complicated data;

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing;

  • Ability to present to small groups and large groups;

  • Ability to write reports and correspondence;

  • Ability to use modern office equipment, technology, and related software;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of a Special Education Teacher.
     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master''s degree preferred;

  • Considerable experience in a job-related field;

  • Embedded training, support and mentoring available.
     

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATION

  • Special Education License

  • Administrative License Preferred, not required.
     

SUPERVISION

  • Work is performed under general direction of the Special Education Board Certified Behavior Analyst
     

WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical/ sensory requirements and environmental conditions) 

  • General office work with travel throughout the school building to support staff in real time

  • Work may occasionally require long hours including early morning and evening;

  • Physical demands: able to stand for long periods of time, ability to lift up to 50#
     

Position Information:  

  • Salary Range: $60k-$70k per year

  • Duty Days: Modified year round, 187 duty days per year

  • Time Off:  3 days of PTO, and 10 days sick time to accrue

  • Benefits eligible

  • Start Date: Immediate
