Duty Hours Per Year:  Position is at St. Francis Elementary School (SFES) 

Hours Per Day:    7 hours per day, Monday-Friday (student contact days)
8:45 am - 3:45 pm

Salary: $29.00-32.00/hour 

Supervisor of Position:  Leah West, Elementary Special Education Program Supervisor

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.  Additional coursework in child development and/or experience in working with children is preferred
  • Must be P.C.A. (Personal Care Assistant) certified;  will provide information on where to take it, if you do not already have this certification
  • Effective communication skills, good interpersonal skills with adults and children
  • Obtain Highly Qualified status: Two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 college credits), an Associate degree (or higher) or successful completion of the Paraeducator training and assessments before your start date.
 
 Training and Experience Requirements
  • Basic sign language skills required.  Completion of ASL Level III coursework preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years successful experience working with adolescents, and/or individuals with special needs. Other successful work experience can be considered

Job Duties:
  • Provide students with defined supports from their Individualized Education Plans under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Complete PCA training before New Hire Orienation 
  • Complete 8 hours of Professional Development (will be paid)
  • Collect data on student progress in the general or special education classroom under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Partner with teachers and administrators to provide the best possible educational environment for students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities throughout the school year to best serve students.

Functional Class Responsibilities

  • Ensures communication access via sign language and augmentative communication tools.
  • Ability to expand functional Sign Language vocabulary and utilize basic sign expansion strategies when specific vocabulary is unknown.
  • Demonstrates competency of expressive use of Sign Language for dialogues and short sentences, narratives and/or stories utilizing important ASL grammatical features.
