Position Title: Special Education Teacher: EBD/ABS
Start Date: January 5, 2026
Mahtomedi Public Schools is looking for a highly motivated special education teacher to join our team at Mahtomedi Middle School, grades 6-8. Candidates with a passion and expertise in behavioral and academic interventions are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time and part of the teacher bargaining unit. Salary and benefits are part of the Master Agreement.
Minimum Requirements:
Must have a valid MN teaching license: EBD or ABS license, or be able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
- Strong knowledge of special education state laws and compliance to ensure IEPs are completed timely
- Ability to establish and maintain standards of student behavior
- Ability to comprehend complex data to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports
- Collaborative team member of a Professional Learning Community, striving to implement best practices for instruction and assessment
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, students and parents
- Seeks opportunities to improve their practice through coaching feedback and ongoing reflection
- Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate thoughts and ideas with accuracy and clarity, ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, student goals and abilities and overall experience in their classroom
- Calm demeanor and a strong passion for working with kids
Responsibilities:
- Identify the needs of students through formal and informal assessments
- Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
- Communicate with students, parents and staff on regular basis on student progress and work in collaboration for positive student outcomes
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Use of data for progress monitoring and tracking.
- Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
- Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
- Other job-related duties as assigned
