Title: Summer Camp Director
Hours: Approximately 500; Stipend for work approximately $20-25,000
Estimated start date of January 12th, 2026
Summer Camp 2026 will run from June 15th to August 21, 2026
Exempt Position
Elementary Camp 9 am to 4 pm with option for extended day 4-5 pm (let’s check numbers on this) average weekly enrollment 25-40 students
CH Camp 9 am to 4 pm with option for extended day 4-5 pm (let’s check numbers on this) average weekly enrollment 22 students
Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and manage Lake Country School’s Elementary and CH summer camp programs, approve all camp activities, and support in hiring and training of camp staff. The Summer Camp Director is responsible for communicating with families, and camp staff prior to, during and after summer camp.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops, in conjunction with the Business Manager, camp policies and procedures.
Oversees the operating budget for the camp and controls expenditures in conjunction with the Business Manager.
Develops marketing materials with support of advancement coordinator.
Recruits, trains, supervises and develops camp staff in collaboration with the operations director.
Plans and conducts camp staff training at the beginning of camp and facilitates ongoing meetings and necessary training to keep staff informed and certifications current in collaboration with the operations director.
Oversees the daily operation and staffing of the summer day camp and manages the overall health, safety, welfare, and enjoyment of the campers.
Staff coverage coordination when staff are absent in conjunction with office support staff.
Manage and supervise camp staff.
Coordinates camp activities, daily schedules, and delegates responsibilities to staff.
Performs evaluations of camp staff at the end of summer.
Consults with assigned administrative personnel to create appropriate action for student behavioral issues.
Responsible for annual camp evaluation.
Responsible for tracking and updating summer camp enrollment.
Responsible for supporting marketing of elementary summer camp.
Perform other duties as assigned related to the summer program by the operations director.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, education and training required. Knowledge of: development needs of youth ages 3-10; behavior management techniques, including Nautilus approach (preferred); safety regulations and emergency procedures; effective supervisory and management principles and practices.
Excellent communication skills when interacting with both families and camp staff
Experience working in a Montessori learning environment
Skill in: handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality; teambuilding; managing budget for camp supplies; training, evaluating and instructing staff.
Administrative ability to plan, communicate, coordinate and facility a successful program.
Ability to: motivate staff; communicate effectively with camp staff to address the needs of campers; interact with parents whose children need additional support;
Education and/or Experience:
Must be at least 25 years of age with supervisory experience. College-level coursework in elementary education is a plus.
Previous experience working in a camp setting or teaching is preferred.
Experience working in a Montessori learning environment
Must have current Red Cross or equivalent CPR, AED and First Aid Certification before the start of camp (certification training will be provided upon hire, if necessary)
Employee will be evaluated in part based upon performance of the tasks listed in the job description.
This is an FLSA exempt position. The position is a temporary, seasonal, at-will position; the person hired for this position is hired for no specific term and Lake Country School reserves the right to terminate the relationship at any time. Nothing in this job description should be construed as a contract or guarantee of continued employment and Lake Country School reserves the right to change benefits or bypass discipline policies if the situation warrants.
