Job description:
The Multilingual Paraprofessional supports multilingual students by providing instructional assistance, language support, and cultural bridging in classroom and school-wide settings. This role collaborates with licensed teachers and staff to facilitate student learning, engagement, and inclusion, ensuring that multilingual students can access grade-level curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons to multilingual students, adapting materials to match students’ language needs and proficiency levels.
- Provide small group or one-on-one academic assistance in subjects such as reading, math, science, and social studies.
- Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student learning plans (e.g., IEPs, ILPs, ML Plans).
- Support literacy and language development using evidence-based strategies.
Language Support
- Interpret and translate verbal and written communication between staff, students, and families in designated languages.
- Provide oral language scaffolds during instruction and assessment as needed.
- Help students understand school procedures, classroom routines, and expectations.
Cultural & Family Engagement
- Act as a cultural liaison to help staff better understand the cultural backgrounds of multilingual families.
- Support communication between school and home through translated materials and in-person or phone-based interpretation.
- Assist with school events, family meetings, and outreach programs to engage multilingual families.
Administrative and General Duties
- Monitor student progress and behavior; report observations to classroom teachers, multilingual teachers and/or the multilingual coordinator.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow data privacy protocols.
- Participate in professional development related to ML support, cultural competency, and instructional strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership to meet the needs of multilingual students.
Skills knowledge and abilities:
- Proficiency in English and at least one other target language (Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Arabic, Vietnamese)
- Experience working with children or in educational settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.78 - $39.67 per hour
