Job Posting: Long-Term Sub, Special Education Middle School Teacher

Job Summary:

St. James Middle School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher to support students with Learning Disabilities (LD) through small-group pull-out services for math and reading. The teacher will also have co-teaching opportunities in general education classrooms and may provide instruction in social skills, making licensure or experience in Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) preferred. Additionally, this position includes supervising and supporting paraprofessionals who assist with student learning and accommodations.

This role is ideal for an educator passionate about helping students succeed through individualized instruction, inclusive practices, and teamwork.

Position Dates: February 23, 2026 – May 29, 2026. (Approximate Dates)


Location: St. James Middle School

Position Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide small-group pull-out instruction in math and reading for students with Learning Disabilities (LD).

  • Co-teach in general education classrooms, supporting inclusive instruction.

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with Minnesota state standards and district goals.

  • Adapt and differentiate curriculum to meet students'' unique learning needs.

  • Foster a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

  • Teach social skills as needed, supporting students with emotional and behavioral challenges.

  • Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals, ensuring they effectively support student learning and accommodations.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education colleagues, paraprofessionals, and related service providers as part of a 6-12 special education team while working directly with middle school students.

  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology.

  • Collect and analyze student progress data to adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for support.

Qualifications:

–  Certification/License: K-12 Academic and Behavior Strategist (ABS) or K-12 Learning Disabilities (LD), or other Special Education license or ability to obtain such license.  
–  Ability to teach math and reading to Middle school students.  
–  Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation. 

 Experience in co-teaching and inclusive education is highly desirable.
 Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
 Collaborative mindset with the ability to work as part of a 6-12 team while supporting middle school students directly.

  Education: 
–  Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. 

  Experience: 
–  Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
