Totino-Grace High School seeks a compassionate, strategic, and proactive Director of Safety & Security to lead efforts that ensure a safe, caring, and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and visitors. Rooted in the school’s Lasallian Catholic mission, this position supports the well-being of the community by promoting physical safety, emotional security, and a culture of respect and vigilance across campus.
The Director will design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive school safety program that integrates emergency preparedness, facility safety, and community education. This leader will collaborate closely with the President, administrative team, and local first responders to develop safety policies and practices that reflect Totino-Grace’s values of faith, inclusion, and mutual care.
The Director of Safety and Security is a 10-month salaried position, working during the school year (approximately August 15–June 15)
Key Responsibilities
Building a Culture of Safety and Care
- Foster a positive and proactive culture of safety grounded in hospitality, respect, and trust.
- Serve as a visible and approachable presence across campus to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Provide education and training that empowers all members of the school community to take an active role in maintaining a safe and caring environment.
- Partner with students and staff to encourage responsibility, empathy, and awareness in daily routines and interactions.
Program Development and Implementation
Assessment & Planning
- Conduct a thorough evaluation of school facilities, identifying safety strengths and areas for improvement.
- Review incident reports, visitor policies, and emergency procedures to inform a continuous improvement plan.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external safety consultants as needed to assess and enhance readiness.
Design & Development
- Create a comprehensive, mission-aligned safety and security plan for the campus.
- Oversee the implementation of physical safety systems such as door access controls, surveillance, communication tools, and visitor management systems.
- Update emergency response protocols and train staff in areas such as lockdowns, severe weather, and crisis communication.
Implementation & Oversight
- Coordinate schoolwide safety drills, debriefings, and response readiness efforts.
- Serve as the primary contact for safety-related incidents, ensuring calm, effective, and compassionate responses.
- Maintain partnerships with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management agencies to ensure alignment and preparedness.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations relevant to educational institutions.
Community Engagement
- Collaborate with faculty and student leaders to integrate safety education into the broader learning experience.
- Partner with parents and community members to promote awareness and cooperation in school safety efforts.
- Coordinate safety planning and coverage for large-scale events, such as athletic contests, ceremonies, and community gatherings.
- Support open communication during emergencies by partnering with the Communications Office to implement clear, timely parent notification systems.
Ongoing Leadership Duties
- Regularly review and update the school’s Emergency Response Procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety drills, OSHA standards, and privacy protocols related to security systems.
- Collaborate with the Facilities and Operations teams to ensure buildings are secure, well-maintained, and welcoming.
- Participate in campus design and construction planning to embed safety considerations into physical spaces and community design.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen collaboration, trust, and shared responsibility between facilities, staff, and students.
