Position Title: Varsity Head Football Coach

Start Date: When filled (hiring process scheduled for January of 2026)

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting with the organization and instruction of St. Anthony Village High School''s football program. This includes setting up games and practices, supervising athletes, and maintaining equipment. The coach will assist in game and facility scheduling, coordinate team transportation, communicate with parents, and arrange event help and details as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Program Organization and Instruction:
    • Organize and instruct the team.
    • Set up and oversee games and practices.
    • Supervise athletes and ensure their safety and well-being.
    • Care for and maintain equipment. furniture.
  • Scheduling and Coordination:
    • Assist in scheduling games and facilities.
    • Coordinate team transportation.
    • Communicate effectively with parents.
    • Arrange for game helpers as needed.
  • Coaching Philosophy and Development:
    • Understand and articulate the purpose and goals of coaching.
    • Deep understanding and application of the fundamentals, psychology, and heart of coaching. 
    • Lead the team in annual service projects and character education lessons.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Prioritize athlete health and safety, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Valid Minnesota coaching certificate or NFICEP Certified/MSHSL Coaches Education Program preferred.
  • Have the necessary knowledge and experience to coach high school football.

Additional Posting Details 

General:
1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community''s image of the entire system.  The public exposure is a considerable responsibility, and community/parent pressure focuses on the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
2. This coaching position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time and injury prevention and care.
3. For items not specifically covered by this job description, it shall be assumed that a coach will exercise common sense and good judgment.

Administrative Duties:
1. Leads the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sporting event or practice and adheres to scheduled facility time. 
2. Makes sure all participants have proper forms turned into the athletic office before they begin practice.
3. Leads recommendations towards new policy, method or procedural change.
4. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of team equipment.

Student Responsibilities:
1. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
2. Gives constant attention to a student''s grades and conduct.
3.  By his/her presence at all games, practices and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
4. Follows programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
5. Completes paperwork on all athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours (or Monday following Friday or Saturday contests).
6. Directs student managers.

Finance, Equipment and Facilities:
1. Permits athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
2. Examines locker room before and after practice and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.  Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
3. Secure all doors and lights before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
4. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and use.
5. Ensure proper set-up and upkeep of sports facilities.
6. Maintains neat and orderly storage areas.

Public Relations:
1. Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes that are not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, Sports Boosters, or in any other feasible manner.
2. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, Booster Club, officials, parents, community, volunteers and fans.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Attend MSHSL rule amd CER meetings.
2. Be a member of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association
3. Attend annual coaches meetings and training
4. Attend preseason athletics registration meeting
