Gateway STEM Academy, a K–8 charter school dedicated to preparing students for success in STEM fields, is seeking a Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our team. This role focuses on delivering rigorous, standards-aligned literacy instruction that builds students’ reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Position Overview

As a Middle School ELA Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction for students in grades 6–8. You will foster a strong classroom culture, implement research-based literacy practices, and collaborate with colleagues and families to support student growth and achievement.

This is a full-time position during the school day.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned ELA lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and analytical skills.
  
  

• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including discussion-based learning, project-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
  
  

• Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, critical thinking, and a love of reading.
  
  

• Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instructional decisions.
  
  

• Provide timely, meaningful feedback to support student growth in writing and literacy skills.
  
  

• Incorporate diverse texts and perspectives to ensure culturally responsive and inclusive instruction.
  
  

• Collaborate with grade-level teams, support staff, and specialists to align instruction and interventions.
  
  

• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and ways to support literacy at home.
  
  

• Implement classroom management practices aligned with school-wide expectations.
  
  

• Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives to support continuous improvement.
  
  

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
  
  

• Valid Minnesota teaching license in 5–12 Communication Arts and Literature (or eligibility for licensure)
  
  

Preferred:

• Experience teaching ELA at the middle school level
  
  

• Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, writing pedagogy, and adolescent learners
  
  

• Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equitable instructional practices
  
  

• Ability to use student data to guide instruction and improve outcomes
  
  

• Strong communication and collaboration skills
