Secondary ESL Scaffolding Specialist & Teacher
Work Model: On-site, Full-time
Role Purpose:
This specialized role focuses on bridging the gap between core academic content and English language proficiency for secondary students. You will serve as the primary creator of English language scaffolds, ensuring that WIDA Level 2 & 3 students can access and master grade-level content while simultaneously developing their academic English.
Key Outcomes & Responsibilities
- Content Scaffolding: Create strategic language supports (e.g., graphic organizers, sentence frames, leveled texts, visuals) for core courses like Science, Math, and History based on content teachers'' lesson plans.
- Targeted Instruction: Deliver 1–2 periods of focused English Language Development (ELD) daily, specifically designed for WIDA Level 2 (Emerging) learners to build foundational academic literacy.
- Teacher Collaboration: Meet regularly with secondary content teachers to co-plan, create scaffolds, and integrate language objectives into general education curriculum.
- Data-Driven Support: Use WIDA Can Do Descriptors and assessment data to tailor scaffolds to individual student needs.
- Advocacy & Compliance: Monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments, maintaining accurate records for compliance with state and federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, or related field.
- Licensure: Valid State Teaching License with an ESL/ELL Endorsement (Secondary level).
- Expertise: Deep understanding of the WIDA Standards Framework and second language acquisition theories.
Preferred Skills
- Collaborative Experience: Proven ability to work across departments and influence instructional practices in non-ESL classrooms.
- Secondary Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with middle or high school multilingual learners.
- AI & Tech Literacy: Proficiency in using digital tools and AI to generate scaffolding materials efficiently.
