ISD #316 Greenway Public Schools is hiring for a Varsity Track and Field Assistant Coach.

Job Summary: The Assistant Track & Field Coach supports the GNK Head Track & Field Coaches in the planning, instruction, and supervision of a comprehensive junior varsity and varsity track and field program. Assistant coaches focus on specific athlete development, event-specific instruction, and the promotion of a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture. The assistant coach will be assigned one or more event areas based on expertise and program needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As the Assistant Head Coach, he/she:
1. Have responsibility for event-specific athlete skill development. As such, provide high-quality instruction in assigned event area(s), which may include: Hurdles, Middle and long distance running, Sprints, sprint mechanics, and relays, Long jump and triple jump High jump and/or pole vault, Throws (shot put, discus)
2. Design and implement age-appropriate training progressions that emphasize proper technique, skill development, and injury prevention.
3. Teach event-specific fundamentals, drills, and competitive strategies aligned with the overall program philosophy.
4. Monitor athlete progress and provide timely, specific feedback to support improvement.
5. Assist with daily practice planning and supervision for JV and varsity athletes.
6. Teach proper safety procedures and ensure athlete safety during practices, warm-ups, event sessions, and meets.
7. Assist in preparation of athletes for competition, including event rules, procedures, and expectations.
8. Support meet-day operations such as warm-ups, event coaching, athlete check-ins, and communication with the head coach.
9. Assist with relay preparation, lineups, and exchanges when/as assigned by the head coaches.
10. Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other assistant coaches to ensure consistency in instruction and expectations.
11. Support a unified team culture across both girls and boys teams and across JV and varsity levels.
12. Communicate athlete needs, progress, and concerns with the head coach.
13. Assist in preparing timely event specific practice plans, maintaining practice schedules, facility usage, and shared equipment.
14. Promote sportsmanship, respect, and leadership among student-athletes.
15. Reinforce academic expectations and positive behavior standards.
16. Build strong, supportive relationships with athletes across experience levels.
17. Encourage multi-sport participation while supporting in-season commitment.
18. Adhere to all district, conference, and state high school league rules.
19. Complete and maintain required certifications (e.g., MSHSL, Concussion, CPR/First Aid) or obtain them upon hire.
20. Complete required coaching education and professional development.
21. Assist with equipment inventory, setup, and care for assigned event areas.
22. Support offseason, summer, or youth development activities as requested (summer Track & Field, Strength & Conditioning program, etc.) Requirements: ? Previous experience with Track & Field desired, but not required.

Stipend Amount/Range: Salary determined per the activities schedule in the master agreement of both schools.
