POSITION DETAILS Grade: K-4 Subject: Elementary Media Specialist Start Date: 2026-2027 Full Time FTE: 1.0 ROLE OBJECTIVES The Elementary Media Specialist develops and leads a dynamic school library and media program that fosters a love of reading, inquiry, creativity, and digital literacy. This educator provides direct instruction to students, collaborates with teachers to support curriculum, and manages library resources to ensure equitable access to information. The Media Specialist cultivates a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports academic achievement, literacy development, and responsible technology use. KEY DUTIES Provide scheduled library/media instruction for elementary students. Teach information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and media literacy in developmentally appropriate ways. Promote reading engagement and support literacy growth through read-alouds, book talks, and genre exploration. Integrate technology tools to enhance learning and creativity. Design lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum goals. Assess student learning and provide feedback to support growth. Develop and maintain a diverse, current, and inclusive library collection. Select books and digital resources that reflect varied cultures, perspectives, and reading levels. Manage cataloging, circulation systems, and inventory procedures. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate research and literacy skills into classroom units. Support instructional technology use and digital resource access. Lead school-wide literacy initiatives (e.g., reading challenges, author visits). Create engaging displays and programs that encourage independent reading. Foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered library environment. Teach safe, ethical, and responsible use of digital resources. Support students in navigating databases, online research tools, and multimedia platforms. Promote awareness of digital footprint and online safety. Maintain accurate records and circulation data. Communicate regularly with families regarding library programs and reading initiatives. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in regular professional development, the school?s professional learning community and staff meetings to improve instruction. Work collaboratively and communicate professionally with school leadership and other staff members to maximize effective instructional activities and build positive school culture. Meet professional obligations by honoring schedules, deadlines, and all professional responsibilities. Demonstrate the standards for effective practices of teachers Any other assigned duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Educational Qualifications: BA Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of content, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage and inspire students, and proficiency in using educational technology.
