POSITION DETAILS Grade: K-8 Position: Local Literacy Lead Start Date: 2026-2027 School year FTE: 1.0 ROLE OBJECTIVES The Local Literacy Lead supports the implementation of the Minnesota READ Act by advancing evidence-based literacy practices across the school. This role works collaboratively with school leadership and staff to strengthen instruction, build educator capacity, and improve literacy outcomes for all students. The Literacy Lead fosters a culture of continuous improvement by supporting teachers as adult learners, providing coaching, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction. KEY DUTIES Collaborate with school leadership, Regional Literacy Lead, and Minnesota Service Cooperatives (MSC) partners to support literacy initiatives and Local Literacy Plan implementation. Deliver and support professional learning on literacy, dyslexia, and evidence-based practices, including guiding teachers in effectively implementing literacy instruction within the classroom. Assist in developing and monitoring student learning plans and literacy interventions. Support administration of universal screening and identification of students with characteristics of dyslexia. Use data to inform instruction and improve student achievement across all tiers. Support development, implementation, and evaluation of the Local Literacy Plan. Train and support paraprofessionals and teaching staff in effective literacy practices. Collaborate with staff to align literacy instruction with Minnesota ELA standards. Support communication with families regarding student literacy progress and strategies for support at home. Participate in Regional Literacy Network collaboration and professional learning. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and professional learning communities. Work collaboratively with school leadership and staff to support student achievement and positive school culture. Maintain professional responsibilities, including meeting schedules and deadlines. Stay current on research and best practices in literacy instruction. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Educational Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in education, reading, special education, or related field Licensure: Valid Minnesota teaching license (Reading, Special Education, or K?6) Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in literacy instruction or related field Training: Completion of MDE-approved Science of Reading training (e.g., LETRS, OL&LA, CAREIALL) SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Strong knowledge of Structured Literacy and evidence-based practices Understanding of Minnesota ELA standards and MTSS framework Ability to support adult learners through coaching and professional development Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills Ability to analyze and use data to inform instruction Commitment to equity and improving outcomes for all students POSITION SCHEDULE This position follows the academic school year calendar and requires availability during regular school hours. Up to 10 additional days may be required during the summer to support planning, training, and implementation of literacy initiatives.
