Job Summary The Head of School serves as the school?s academic leader, responsible for ensuring high-quality Montessori programming, strong staff culture, collaborative instructional leadership, and compliance with Minnesota charter school requirements. This role works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, families, and community partners to advance the school?s mission and ensure student growth. The ideal candidate will inspire staff, engage with students and families, and drive strategic initiatives that promote rigorous academics and long-term sustainability. La Crescent Montessori & STEM School (LMSS) is a small, community-centered Montessori public school, serving children 3 years old through 12th grade. Our school is rooted in Montessori philosophy and a commitment to nurturing independence, curiosity, self-assurance and collaboration. Duties Lead overall administration and educational success of La Crescent Montessori & STEM School (LMSS), serving as the primary point of contact and accountability. Implement and advance Montessori and STEM instructional philosophies, overseeing curriculum development and staff collaboration. Manage academic and support personnel, including hiring, supervision, evaluations and professional development. Oversee student services and special education, ensuring compliance and supporting student success. Develop and execute enrollment and retention strategies, including family engagement and marketing. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. Collaborate on financial planning, budgeting, and grant management within Board-approved policies. Serve as ex-officio member of the Board, supporting strategic planning and policy implementation. Cultivate community relationships and represent the school at events with key stakeholders. Demonstrate ethical leadership, professionalism, and commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous growth. Qualifications An interest in the practice of the Montessori educational philosophy Bachelor''s degree in education or relevant field of study Preferred experience includes a Master?s degree in a related field or an administrative license Active Montessori Certification or to be obtained within 4 years Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills Preferred Montessori training (AMI/AMS/MACTE) or experience in a Montessori environment Experience in charter school leadership, governance, or compliance Background in small-school leadership, or multi-role environments Background in teaching with classroom experience that informs effective school management Strong leadership skills with a history of managing teams effectively and supervising staff at various levels Benefits: Health savings account Tele-health services Paid time off Parental leave Professional development assistance Retirement plan Location, Location, Location!
