SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION
Position Title: Special Education Teacher
Department: Education Services
Immediate Supervisor''s Position Title: Principal
Salary Range: $46,744 to $107,076 Annually
General Summary of Purpose of Job:
Provide specialized instruction, modifications and accommodations to students with disabilities. Follow all due process requirements under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act and Every School Succeeds Act. Work collaboratively with building staff. Provide direction to Paraprofessionals on day-to-day activities for student achievement. Participate in IEP meetings and facilitate communication between staff and families if necessary.
SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and prepare for standards-based curriculum, instruction and assessment. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students'' varying needs and interests.
- Observe and evaluate students'' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Deliver the district''s written, taught and assessed curriculum.
- Communicate with parents and guardians to discuss their children''s progress, and to determine priorities for their children''s social, emotional and academic growth. Attend Conferences and evening duties as assigned and described in the master contract.
- Create a positive environment to ensure successful learning for all students.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children''s progress, and to determine priorities for their children''s social, emotional and academic growth.
- Partner with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to support students'' academic and social-emotional development.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Adhere to staff and program guidelines and district procedures and policies.
- Support the district''s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic issues or special academic interests.
- Administer standardized, formative and state mandated assessments and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
- Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor''s Degree in Special Education or a related field
- Five Years of Successful Teaching Experience
License/Certification Requirements
- Valid Minnesota Teaching License or five (5) or more years of teaching experience
- Special Education License ( LD or ASD)
