Position: Social Studies Teacher (US History and AP Government) Date: July 1, 2026 Department: Faculty FLSA: Non-Exempt Full-time/Part-time: Full-time Salary: $48,000 - $70,000 Supervisor: Principal Direct Reports : N/A Provides Work Direction to : N/A Receives Work Direction from : Principal, President Purpose of Position: The primary responsibility of our Social Studies teacher is to instruct students in U.S. History and Advanced Placement (AP) Government. This person is a student-centered educator who inspires intellectual curiosity, fosters civic engagement, and equips students with the analytical skills necessary to understand the complexities of American history and government. This educator will create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that emphasizes critical thinking, discussion, and real-world connections while supporting students in developing as informed, ethical, and active citizens. Ethical Standards: Employees of DeLaSalle High School must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of DeLaSalle High School. Their personal behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, nor can it embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. Although specific positions may not require the employee to be of the Catholic faith, it is expected that all employees respect the Roman Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Reasonable accommodations for the religious practices of employees not of the Roman Catholic faith will similarly be provided. Representative Responsibilities: 1. Instruction and Curriculum Development: Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in U.S. History and AP Government. Prepare students for success on the AP Government exam through rigorous content, skill development, and assessment. Incorporate primary sources, historical inquiry, constitutional analysis, and civic discourse into daily instruction. Utilize diverse instructional strategies ? including discussion-based learning, project-based learning, and inquiry-driven activities ? to deepen student understanding. Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning. 2. Classroom Environment and Student Engagement: Establish a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture that reflects DeLaSalle?s commitment to community and belonging. Promote critical thinking, civil discourse, and student voice through discussion of historical and contemporary issues. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and achievement. 3. Assessment and Communication: Develop and implement meaningful assessments to monitor student learning and progress. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff. Use data to inform instruction and support continuous improvement. 4. Professional Collaboration and School Involvement: Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to strengthen curriculum and instructional practices. Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development days, learning communities, and school wide initiatives. Engage in ongoing professional development related to social studies education and AP instruction. Contribute to the broader school community through co-curricular involvement, student activities, or service opportunities. 5. Career, College, and Civic Readiness: Foster students? understanding of civic responsibility, democratic participation, and ethical leadership. Connect course content to real-world issues, current events, and civic engagement opportunities. Support students in developing skills necessary for college success, including writing, analysis, and argumentation. Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, or a related field is preferred. Teaching certification or working towards one. Prior experience teaching Social Studies, History, or Political Science at the high school level is highly desirable. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong content knowledge in U.S. History and American Government. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in basic computer applications. Expected Job Requirements : Demonstrated ability to work well with others. Ability to work with a diverse group of students and staff. Must be dependable and punctual. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Works in such a manner to provide positive and timely communication with students and parents while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to collaborate with and support other staff as directed. Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions. Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School. Attend all staff meetings as required. Able to work 40+ hours a week or whatever is required ? including occasional weekend and evening work. Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.
