Summary of Position: Diagnoses, repairs and maintains District-owned vehicles, trailers, and maintenance equipment. Performs building maintenance, as required. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a minimum of an associate''s or equivalent degree or certificate from a two-year college or technical school in automotive and/or diesel mechanics and at least three years work experience in an automotive or heavy equipment shop performing maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work. A degree or certificate in diesel mechanics is preferred. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver''s License with school bus and passenger endorsements. Knowledge and Skill Requirements: General knowledge of the operation of gasoline and diesel engines. Automotive and truck mechanical theory. Basic welding techniques, such as arc, braze, and wire-feed. Basic first aid and CPR. General mechanical skills, including truck, automotive and building maintenance; shop-cleaning and minor shop repair skills. Troubleshooting mechanical problems. Skilled in using computer-based diagnostic software applications, such as Fleetmax, International ISIS, International Master Diagnostics Analysis, and OTC programs. Written communication skills, such as completing bussing reports on students. Ability to use specialized equipment, such as hydraulic presses, saws, and benders.
