Date Closing: 04/24/2026 Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in the STEP Room (Specialized Transition & Education Program). This position will support students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, physical impairments, those on the autism spectrum or other unique needs that require specialized programming by providing individualized instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and collaborating with staff and families. Location: St. James Middle/Senior High School Position Type: Special Education Teacher Hours: Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Key Responsibilities: Provide specifically designed instruction aligned to students individualized education plans (IEPs) in the areas of communication, functional academics, adaptive skills, social skills and behavior regulation. Adapt and differentiate curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Foster a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports students'' academic, social, and emotional growth. Deliver specifically designed instruction in small group, 1:1 or inclusive settings that best meet the needs of the students. Collaborate with General Education teachers to support an inclusive classroom environment. Collaborate with related service providers, outside agencies such as vocational rehabilitation services and other team members to ensure consistent student support. Lead and train paraprofessionals to ensure consistent, instructional and behavioral strategies are being carried out. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology to maximize student success. Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed. Incorporate several modes of AAC throughout the classroom as needed including both high and low tech devices. Instruct and support students in staff in activities of daily living (ADL''s). Support students with medical, sensory, mobility, and personal care needs as outlined in their personal care plans. Communicate regularly with families to share student progress and provide updates. Qualifications: Valid Minnesota teaching license as an academic and behavioral strategist (ABS) or other qualified licensure that meets the needs of the classroom. Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities is highly desirable. Strong understanding of behavior management strategies, assistive technology, and differentiated instruction is desirable. Ability to design and deliver instruction using evidence based practices such as structured teaching, visual supports, or AAC integration into classrooms. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge and understanding of Special education law, due process compliance and effective progress monitoring. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience with Crisis Prevention and Intervention strategies (CPI) To apply, please complete the application in Applitrack.
