The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Teacher provides instruction focused on academic skill development, organization, and college and career readiness for students enrolled in the AVID program. The AVID Teacher works collaboratively with staff and AVID tutors to support student success in rigorous coursework. Duties and Responsibilities Plan and deliver instruction aligned with AVID standards, methodologies, and district expectations. Support student development in writing, organization, collaboration, inquiry, reading, and study skills. Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. Collaborate with the AVID District Director, other AVID teachers, AVID tutors, counselors, teachers, and administrators. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and staff. Model ethical behavior aligned with the Hopkins District Strategic Plan and Vision 2031. Actively participate in the AVID Site Team. Participate in required AVID professional learning. Qualifications Minnesota teaching licensure required. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities of learners. Strong organizational, instructional, and classroom management skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Preferred Qualifications Experience with AVID or college-readiness programming. Experience supporting students with organization, writing, and study skills. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a school environment, using standard equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
