Ortonville School District is seeking two student-centered 7?12 English Language Arts teachers to join a team committed to strong literacy outcomes, meaningful relationships, and engaging instruction. As we expand career pathway programming at the secondary level, ELA is central?students must be able to read complex texts, write with clarity and purpose, communicate effectively, and think critically across disciplines. HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH POSITION AVAILABLE - Not required with these teaching positions. We prioritize a classroom culture where students read widely, build stamina, talk about texts with purpose, and grow as writers through consistent practice, feedback, and conferencing. We are looking for educators who balance high expectations with high support and who believe literacy is a gateway skill for every student. Licensure Requirement Applicants must be eligible for Minnesota licensure in English Language Arts/Literature (7?12) or the appropriate MN ELA licensure aligned to the assignment. Literacy Priority & Minnesota READ Act (Phase II) Ortonville is elevating secondary literacy as a district priority. The successful candidate(s) will participate in Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) READ Act Phase II literacy professional development, unless the applicant has already completed the required training. Key Responsibilities · Teach secondary ELA courses aligned to Minnesota standards (specific grade levels/courses based on scheduling and staffing). · Build a strong reading culture through high-quality texts, purposeful independent reading, and instructional routines that support comprehension and stamina. · Teach writing as a process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) using clear expectations, exemplars, and frequent feedback. · Explicitly teach academic vocabulary, language conventions, and discussion skills to support comprehension and communication. · Use assessment data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support, including interventions and accommodations as needed. · Collaborate with colleagues to support literacy across content areas, pathway-aligned projects, presentations, and performance tasks. · Maintain a positive, structured learning environment and build strong relationships with students and families. Preferred Qualifications · Strong practices for supporting struggling readers and writers at the secondary level (MTSS, intervention supports, accommodations). · Ability to teach students how to comprehend challenging texts through explicit strategy instruction and evidence-based discussion routines. · Experience designing authentic tasks (speaking, writing, research) that connect to student interests and career pathways.
