The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the budgetary financial functions of accounting, Payroll, reporting, analysis, and preparation of general business and financial affairs of Lakeville Area School in an effort to provide the best possible educational programs and services in the most efficient manner possible.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Assist the Executive Director of Business Services in oversight of all School District budget preparation. Coordinate and manage the budget development process and oversee the appropriate procedures in budget development, preparation, and control. Manage and coordinate the preparation of all District budget booklets.
- Conduct budgetary scenario development, analysis, prepare, and develop management reports as needed in an appropriate format as required by administration, Finance Advisory Counsel and School Board. Develop, review, and recommend policy, methods, and procedures relating to the efficient and effective accounting of School District funds.
- Development, implementation, and maintenance of financial tools to help monitor current year financial performance as well as assist with the determination of long-range financial planning goals.
- Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, and administer and update a financial system that will accurately reflect the financial operations of the School District.
- Administer School District accounting functions consistent with established GASB and UFARS guidelines.
- Project and maintain adequate records of School District cash flow and make recommendations for investments or borrowing with the degree of security prescribed by statute.
- Determine and assign proper classification and reporting of all financial transactions in accordance with UFARS and GAAP.
- Oversee severance/retirement payments and ensure they are made in accordance with contract language.
- Perform all long-term debt management activities.
- Ensures that financial internal controls, policies, and procedures are adhered to districtwide.
- Manage the financial requirements in the preparation of local, state, and federal applications and reporting.
- Assist in organizing and supervision of finance staff for year-end closeout and annual external audit.

- Work with external auditors and actuaries.
- Assists in supervision and provides support to Business Office and Payroll staff regarding department procedures and program requirements for the purpose of ensuring efficient processing in compliance with district policy and established regulatory guidelines.
- Manages payroll processing and reconciliation.
- Serves as the district first point of contact for complex payroll matters. Accepts and resolves employee issues and/or questions relative to compensation, benefits and/or related contract issues when payroll staff are unable to reconcile. Provides payroll communications to employees in order to resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintains current knowledge of all collective bargaining agreements and individual employment contracts as they apply to payroll and benefits. In partnership with Human Resources, applies terms of contract settlements to the salary schedules and calculates retroactive payroll accordingly.
- Oversees payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely distribution.
- Prepares payroll-related reports for management, state, federal and local agencies.
- Attends staff development opportunities offered through MDE, MASBO, ASBO, and various financial firms. Serves on the District Finance Advisory Committee.
- Coordinates the retention and destruction of Business Office records.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- Five to seven years of finance experience, including supervision, training and motivation of personnel is required. School finance experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
- Efficient in Google Docs and Microsoft office products.
- Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with minimal supervision and support.
- Ability to use a computer and other related technology to communicate, collaborate, conduct research and problem solve.
- Managerial skills including planning, budgeting, supervision, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team collaboration.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
- Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations (SFO) preferred.
SCHEDULE:
- Monday - Friday
- 8 hours per day
SALARY:
- $130,000 - $140,000
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month position, working 261 days per year.
