Position Description: English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

Job Location:  Sejong Academy Charter School, 2410 Stillwater Rd E, Maplewood, MN 55119

Direct Supervisor: Head of School

Background: Sejong Academy is a PreK-12th grade Korean immersion charter school located in Saint Paul/Maplewood, MN with approximately 335 students. Our vision is that our students will become scholars of Korean and English, as well as socially responsible global citizens. We are an authorized International Baccalaureate World School with the Middle Years Program, and IB Career-related Program.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at the school on the specified days and hours. The position hours during the school year are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Job Responsibilities:

●        Provide direct English language instruction to students in grades 7–12 at varying levels of English proficiency.

●        Develop and implement standards-based ESL curriculum aligned with WIDA ELD Standards and Minnesota State Standards.

●        Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across content areas (co-teaching, consultation, or pull-out models as needed).

●        Use data to monitor student progress, identify language needs, and adjust instruction accordingly.

●        Create an inclusive, supportive, and affirming classroom environment that fosters academic growth and language confidence.

●        Advocate for English learners and provide guidance on language accommodations, instructional strategies, and family communication.

●        Maintain accurate records of student performance, language levels, and required documentation for EL services.

●        Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to a collaborative staff culture.

●        Facilitate EL Family Nights with the EL team.

●        Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications:

●        Valid Minnesota teaching license (Grades 7–12 or K–12).

●        Demonstrated understanding of second language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices.

●        Strong classroom management and interpersonal communication skills.

●        Ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Preferred candidates will have:

●        Experience working with multilingual learners in a secondary setting.

●        Familiarity with WIDA standards, ACCESS testing, and MTSS supports.

●        Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is a plus.

●        Experience in a charter school or urban education setting.

Minimum starting salary depends on educational experience.
