Be the Calm in the Storm. Be the Advocate Every Child Deserves.
At Northeast College Prep, we believe every student deserves a safe, supportive space to learn, grow, and heal. That''s where you come in.
We''re searching for a School Social Worker who brings both compassion and clarity to the complex needs of our K–8 students. You''ll work with small groups and individuals, respond in times of crisis, partner with families, and build bridges to community resources—all while contributing to a school culture rooted in belonging, equity, and high expectations.
This isn''t a behind-the-scenes role. You''ll be a front-line champion for student wellness, emotional development, and mental health—and a trusted teammate to the staff who serve them.
What You''ll Do
- Run social skills groups that give students tools to navigate relationships, emotions, and challenges.
- Provide individual counseling and crisis support with empathy, boundaries, and skill.
- Deliver social–emotional services for students receiving special education services, including implementing IEP goals related to emotional regulation, behavior, and social development.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, case managers, and service providers to ensure students receive coordinated and effective support.
- Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to evaluations when appropriate, and monitor progress toward social–emotional and behavioral goals.
- Partner with families, teachers, and outside providers to wrap holistic care around each student.
- Connect families to community-based supports like therapy, case management, or housing services.
- Lead support efforts for students experiencing homelessness or instability, acting as the McKinney-Vento and ESSA liaison.
- Respond with calm and purpose to students in crisis—and help prevent the next one.
- Conduct self-harm, suicide, and threat assessments with professionalism and care.
- Guide staff through training on trauma, de-escalation, mandated reporting, and student mental health.
- Lead initiatives that promote attendance, equity, and whole-child development.
- Keep records and documentation organized and accurate, including documentation required for special education services.
- Collaborate closely with our behavior support team and contribute to our restorative practices model.
Who You Are
You believe in the power of relationships. You''re not easily rattled. You lead with heart and follow up with action. You are:
- Mission-aligned. You believe all kids deserve access to opportunity, wellness, and academic success.
- Grounded and steady. You can stay centered in tough moments—and help students do the same.
- Collaborative. You''re a true partner to families, staff, and community organizations.
- Equity-focused. You understand the role systemic barriers play and work to remove them.
- Reflective and coachable. You''re always learning, growing, and open to feedback.
- Passionate. You care deeply—and that shows in everything you do.
What You Bring
Required:
- Licensed (or eligible by August 2026) as a School Social Worker in Minnesota
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Master''s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
