POSITION DETAILS

Subject: Long Term Substitute MS Music Teacher
Start Date: Starting the week of April 27, thru May 29th, 2026
ROLE OBJECTIVES
The Long-Term Substitute Middle School Music Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction by delivering a comprehensive and engaging music education program in the absence of the regular teacher. This role includes teaching music appreciation, harmony, general music, and choral music while supporting students’ musical growth and maintaining established classroom routines. The substitute will implement existing lesson plans when available and adapt instruction as needed to meet diverse student needs, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. This position collaborates with staff and administration to support student success and school programs during the duration of the assignment.
KEY DUTIES
- Deliver music instruction in alignment with provided lesson plans, curriculum guidelines, and school expectations.
- Maintain continuity in classroom routines, procedures, and expectations established by the regular teacher.
- Adapt and modify lessons as needed to meet the varying needs and abilities of middle school students.
- Utilize a range of appropriate musical materials and resources, including general and choral music repertoire.
- Provide whole group, small group, and individualized instruction as appropriate.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and communicating any concerns to administration.
- Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment that supports student engagement and appropriate behavior.
- Supervise students during class and assigned duties, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Support and, when applicable, assist with school music events, rehearsals, or performances.
- Collaborate with building staff and administration to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Follow school policies, procedures, and student support plans, including IEPs and 504 plans.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, student work, and any required documentation.
- Communicate professionally with staff and, when appropriate, families.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and professionalism in a temporary assignment setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Work collaboratively and communicate professionally with school leadership and other staff members to maximize effective instructional activities and build positive school culture.
Meet professional obligations by honoring schedules, deadlines, and all professional responsibilities.
Demonstrate the standards for effective practices of teachers
Any other assigned duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications: BA
Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of content, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage and inspire students, and proficiency in using educational technology.
COMPENSATION
Pay Rate: $200.00 per day
