Purpose of Position: The primary responsibility of our Modern World History Teacher is to deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that explores global historical developments from approximately the late 19th century to the present. The teacher fosters critical thinking, historical analysis, and global awareness while supporting students’ academic and personal growth. This role requires strong content knowledge, effective classroom management, and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning.

Representative Responsibilities:
1. Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Design and deliver comprehensive lesson plans aligned with state and district standards in Modern World History.
- Teach key topics such as industrialization, imperialism, world wars, Cold War, decolonization, globalization, and contemporary global issues.
- Incorporate diverse perspectives, primary/secondary sources, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English language learners and students with special needs.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including discussion, project-based learning, and inquiry-based approaches.
2. Assessment & Evaluation:
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student understanding.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student progress.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance data.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
3. Classroom Environment:
- Establish a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive discipline strategies.
- Encourage student engagement, participation, and collaboration.
4. Student Support & Development:
- Foster critical thinking, historical reasoning, and civic awareness.
- Support students’ social-emotional development and academic growth.
- Provide extra help, tutoring, or enrichment opportunities as needed.
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress and concerns.
5. Professional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with colleagues in the social studies department and across disciplines.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school initiatives.
- Stay current with best practices in history education and pedagogy.
- Contribute to curriculum development and school improvement efforts.
6. Extracurricular & Community Engagement
- Sponsor or support extracurricular activities such as history clubs, Model UN, or academic teams (optional but encouraged).
- Engage with the school community through events, conferences, and outreach
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, or a related field is preferred.
· Teaching certification or working towards one.
· Prior experience teaching Social Studies, History, or Political Science at the high school level is highly desirable.
· Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students effectively.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong content knowledge in U.S. History and American Government.
· Organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Proficiency in basic computer applications.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Works in such a manner to provide positive and timely communication with students and parents while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Ability to collaborate with and support other staff as directed.
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
· Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School.
· Attend all staff meetings as required.
· Able to work 40+ hours a week or whatever is required – including occasional weekend and evening work.
· Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.
