The position will oversee the different levels of the boys'' basketball activities district wide and be in charge of the development of the overall program. This position will serve the students in our Middle/Senior High School (Grades 7-12). The head coaching position will start in mid November and runs to the end of the season in March. The practice schedule is set for 2-3 hours/day (Approximately 3:30 - 6:00 PM) depending on the needs associated with the different winter sports teams and needs for the existing facilities. There will be some summer camps and off season opportunities for our program as well. The Aitkin Independent School District # 1 believes that a dynamic program of student activities is vital to the educational development of all students, providing experiences that promote the physical, mental, social, and emotional development of all participants . Requirements: Desire to work with young people. To have played/coaching experience is preferred. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Licensures & Certification: Ability to complete the online coaching requirements as established by the Minnesota State High School League. Program Leadership: Lead and develop the Boys Varsity Basketball program, fostering a good student-athlete environment. Attend all practices and games as scheduled. Oversee Junior Varsity and Middle School teams, providing guidance and structure to ensure program alignment. Collaborate with coaching staff to create a cohesive development pipeline from Middle School through Varsity. Work with assistants to develop a training/practice program that maximizes the development of all school-aged basketball players. Plan and implement comprehensive training, including fundamentals, strategies, conditioning, and off-season development. Duties/Responsibilities: Provide a positive atmosphere that promotes good sportsmanship and character development. Develop practice plans that enhance individual skills and team performance. Maintain accurate records of team and player performance. Support multi-sport participation for student-athletes, encouraging balanced development. Administration Duties: Communicate scheduling, logistics, and team expectations consistently with athletes, parents, and staff. Organize and lead team, parent, and coaching staff meetings. Manage equipment and uniform inventory, distribution, and storage in line with department guidelines. Work collaboratively with the Activities Director to monitor student-athlete academic progress. Partner with the Strength and Conditioning Coachs to prioritize athlete safety, injury prevention, and physical development.
