Mahtomedi Public Schools is looking for a highly motivated special education teacher to facilitate a program for students with functional academic and behavioral needs. Candidates who welcome the challenge of creating new opportunities for students are encouraged to apply to join our team!
About the Position: This position is primarily responsible for overseeing case management and providing special education services and supports to students receiving services under Developmentally/Cognitively Delayed (DCD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will have strong instructional skills in the areas of literacy, math, functional/adaptive skills, and behavior management.
Caseload: 8-10 students
Student Eligibility Categories: DCD, ASD
Other: Due Process Assistants manage scheduling of meetings and filing paperwork
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor''s degree; Special Education DCD, ASD or ABS teaching license or able to obtain appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.
- Preferred Experience: Ability to teach students with significant needs in the areas of social, emotional, adaptive and/or functional academic development utilizing a progression of interventions.
- The ideal candidate should be passionate about creating a dynamic, highly structured program environment that provides direct instruction to a variety of learning needs with an emphasis on functional academic skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify the needs of assigned students with disabilities through formal and informal assessments
- Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
- Communicate with students, parents and staff on a regular basis on student progress
- Write IEP''s (Individual Educational Plans) and complete other due process requirements in accordance to MDE regulations
- Lead and facilitate IEP meetings
- Create and implement behavior intervention plans
- Attend department, school and parent meetings
- Provide program guidance to paraprofessionals
- Other job-related duties as assigned
