Position Title: Science Teacher - Alternative Program (Grades 7-12+)
Department/Building: Brainerd Learning Center
Reports to: Building Administrator
Assignment: 2026-2027 School Year - Ongoing
Hours: 8 per day, Monday through Friday. 184 Duty Days
Salary Range: $ 46,936 - $ 90,238 (Based on education and experience; wages outlined in the Certified Master Contract located on district website)
Union: Ed MN
FLSA: Overtime Exempt

Description
The Brainerd Learning Center is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Science Teacher to serve students in grades 7–12+ within an alternative education setting. This position requires a student-centered educator who is committed to building strong relationships, supporting diverse learning needs, and helping students overcome barriers to achieve graduation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to students in grades 7–12+
- Support and monitor student progress in both in-person and online learning environments
- Teach and/or develop elective courses based on student interest and program needs
- Provide individualized support to students who require additional academic and behavioral guidance
- Serve as a student advocate and mentor, building trust and fostering a positive learning environment
- Advise students on graduation requirements, credit attainment, and academic planning
- Actively support students in staying on track for on-time graduation
- Collaborate with staff to implement interventions and supports for students with extenuating life circumstances
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students, families, and staff
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Valid Minnesota teaching license in Science (or ability to obtain)
- Experience working with secondary students (grades 7–12 preferred)
- Strong understanding of alternative education models and credit recovery systems
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt to varied learning styles and needs
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with students who may be disengaged or at-risk
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting online or blended learning platforms
- Ability to teach across multiple science disciplines and/or electives
- Background in trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, or social-emotional learning
