Schedule: 5 days / week (Monday - Friday), 8 hours / day, 12 months / year
Hours: 6:00am – 2:30pm or as assigned (hours & break hours may vary)
Benefits & Pay Schedule: According to Master Agreement
JOB SUMMARY:
Participates in and oversees all building systems, custodial and outside grounds care to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for students, staff and visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
30% Install/Maintain/Repair
- Repair and maintain school facilities and fixtures such as lockers, bathroom partitions, athletic equipment, and doors.
- Minor, major, and routine painting, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Assist District maintenance techs with general and major repair of school.
- Implement and perform preventative maintenance programs of facility systems and custodial/grounds equipment.
30% Cleaning/Upkeep
- Clean, scrub, mop, dust, vacuum or sweeps floors, stairs, classrooms, kitchens, gyms, locker rooms, libraries, offices, commons, hallways, restrooms and other designated areas.
- Respond to emergency cleanup situations.
- Keep the custodial/maintenance rooms clean and well maintained. Restock shelves with cleaning supplies.
- Maintain building security: secure building, lock and unlock buildings, as necessary and perform other security tasks.
- Detailed cleaning of all areas of building in summer months as directed.
20% Program Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee daily completion of building custodial activities.
- Monitor/oversee work order schedule and assign appropriate personnel to tasks based on timing of need, facility use, and personnel schedules.
- Instruct and train custodial personnel in safe operating procedures of all equipment, cleaning practices, repair practices, use of chemicals, Right to Know, etc.
- Ensure that all safety standards are met in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Submit requests for repair of equipment after troubleshooting/attempting repair.
- Evaluate staff performance.
- Coordinate maintenance, repair, and construction with outside contractors and vendors.
10% Set up/Take down
- Set up, take down & clean up for events and other activities as directed.
8% Grounds
- Perform basic grounds upkeep including shoveling snow, picking up garbage and clean and free of obstruction, as needed.
2% Meetings/Trainings
- Attends meetings and trainings as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Education/Certification/Licensure Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- First Class Boiler''s License within 6 months of hire.
Experience:
- Previous custodial or other related experience required.
Essential Skills Required to Perform the Work:
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
- Ability to employ proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to manage email, work order system software, electronic timesheet, and HVAC system software.
- Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral formats with District staff and community members.
- Ability to train staff, give work direction, and effectively lead a team.
- Organizational and time management skills including prioritizing duties to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to safely work with cleaning products.
- Ability to follow established routine with ability to vary sequence of duties as needed.
- Mechanical repair abilities.
- Knowledge of applicable district policies/procedures.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software Required:
- Operates hand tools, pallet jack, desk/table movers and ladders.
- Operates grounds equipment including snow removal equipment, lawn mower, and other maintenance equipment.
- Operates cleaning equipment including carpet cleaners and floor machines.
- Operates computer, hand held radio, and district phone system.
- Operates work order system software.
- Operates HVAC system software.
Supervision of Other Employees:
- This position is a direct supervisor of custodial staff.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Position involves lifting, walking, pulling, stooping, climbing, crawling and kneeling.
- Position involves extended periods of time on feet.
- Position involves frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts 75 – 100 pounds.
- Position involves occasional climbing of ladders.
- Position involves occasional repetitive motion & hand dexterity in performing tasks.
- Position involves listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity.
Mental Job Requirements:
- Position includes organizing and prioritizing tasks in order to meet strict deadlines.
- Position involves attention to detail.
- Position includes operating equipment that requires concentration.
- Position includes handling multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.

Working Conditions:
- Position works around dirt, dust, chemicals and fumes.

- Position involves occasional exposure to heights, confined spaces and mechanical equipment/moving parts.
- Position includes evening, night, and weekend hours.
- Position may include overtime hours.
