Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach
All coaches at Rockford Area Schools are responsible for providing leadership, guidance and instruction to student athletes within their program. The coach reports to, and works closely with the Head Coach and Activities Director to determine goals and direction of the program. Coaches are responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student athlete participating on their team. Desired qualifications of the for this position includes:
- Previous wrestling experience (preferably in coaching and/or competing at the high school, club, or collegiate level).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass background checks and meet school employment requirements.
- Previous coaching experience.
The Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the wrestling program. This includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Assist in scheduling, planning, and supervising practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Teach fundamental and advanced wrestling skills and strategies while emphasizing proper technique and injury prevention.
- Responsible for monitoring safety at all times including ensuring proper use of equipment, maintaining clean practice environments, and responding appropriately to injuries in accordance with school policies.
- Encourage teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Promote the wrestling program within the school and the Rockford community.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, athletics staff, and school administration.
- Foster an inclusive and motivating environment for all team members.
This position will start November 17, 2026 and run through mid/late February, 2027.
