Ortonville School District is seeking a student-centered Math teacher for grades 7?9 to join a team committed to mathematical fluency, problem-solving, and meaningful student relationships. In our secondary program, math is more than just calculations?it is a tool for logic, modeling, and critical analysis. We are looking for an educator who can make abstract concepts accessible and help students build the persistence needed for high-level mathematical thinking. HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH POSITION AVAILABLE ? This coaching role is available but not required with this teaching position. Other coaching and advising opportunities are also available. We prioritize a classroom culture where students move beyond rote memorization to develop a deep conceptual understanding of algebra, geometry, and data analysis. We are looking for an educator who balances high expectations with high support and who believes that numeracy is a gateway skill for every student?s future career and civic life. Licensure Requirement Applicants must be eligible for Minnesota licensure in Mathematics (5?8 or 5?12) or the appropriate MN licensure aligned to the assignment. Key Responsibilities Teach secondary Math courses (typically focusing on Algebra 1, Geometry, and Middle School Math) aligned to Minnesota academic standards. Create a classroom environment that encourages mathematical discourse, where students explain their reasoning and learn from multiple problem-solving approaches. Explicitly teach mathematical vocabulary and literacy strategies to help students decode complex word problems and technical texts. Use assessment data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support, including interventions (MTSS) and accommodations for diverse learners. Foster "mathematical stamina" by designing tasks that challenge students to persevere through multi-step problems and real-world modeling. Collaborate with colleagues to integrate math across career pathways, ensuring students see the practical application of their learning. Maintain a positive, structured learning environment and build strong relationships with students and families. Preferred Qualifications Strong practices for supporting students who have gaps in foundational math skills (intervention supports and scaffolded instruction). Experience using hands-on manipulatives or digital modeling tools to demonstrate abstract concepts. Ability to design authentic, project-based tasks that connect mathematical reasoning to student interests. Willingness to contribute to the school community through coaching or advising.
