ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Community Center and Library Manager reimagines and cultivates a dynamic learning culture that brings together community members, families, scholars, and staff. This role leads the development of a welcoming and inclusive center that elevates the dynamics and culture of the school community while fostering a deep love for literacy, reading, and lifelong learning.
The Manager oversees all library operations, including curating diverse and culturally relevant collections (including books and materials by and about Hmong, Karen, and communities of color), managing circulation systems, maintaining an organized and accessible community learning space, and supporting scholars in developing strong research, inquiry, and information literacy skills. This includes collaborating with school leaders and parents, promoting reading engagement, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality materials for all learners.
In addition, the role serves as a bridge between school and community by designing and facilitating programs, events, and partnerships that celebrate cultural identity, elevate community voice, and encourage family engagement. The Manager is responsible for building a vibrant culture of learning that extends beyond the classroom, one that honors Hmong and Karen cultural heritage, promotes literacy, and creates meaningful opportunities for connection, exploration, and growth for all stakeholders.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Culture of Learning & Literacy. Build and sustain a school-wide culture of reading and inquiry that fosters a deep love of literacy among scholars, staff, and families by designing and implementing engaging literacy initiatives, reading programs, and events that promote independent reading habits. In partnership with instructional staff, integrate literacy and research skills across all content areas to strengthen student learning and achievement.
Library Management & Instructional Support. Oversee all library operations, including cataloging, circulation, inventory management, and maintaining an organized, accessible, and welcoming space, while curating a diverse and culturally relevant collection that reflects the identities of the HOPE community. In partnership with teachers, support scholars in developing strong information literacy and research skills and ensure library resources are aligned to curriculum and instructional priorities.
Cultural Integration & Community Engagement. Lead the intentional integration of Hmong language, culture, and history into library and community center programming by designing and facilitating culturally responsive events, workshops, and family engagement opportunities that celebrate and elevate community identity. Build strong partnerships with families and community organizations to extend learning beyond the classroom while ensuring all programming is inclusive and responsive to the diverse backgrounds of scholars and families.
Program Development & Operations. Develop and manage schedules, systems, and programming for the community center and library to maximize access for students and families while ensuring efficient operations. Monitor participation, gather feedback, and use data to continuously improve programming, while managing resources, budgets, and materials to ensure sustainability and alignment with school priorities.
School Leadership and Staff Development. Model and promote a culture of high expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the school community. Provide guidance and professional development to staff on integrating literacy, culturally responsive practices, and effective use of library resources into their instruction and engagement with families.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelors in education or related field is required. A school librarian license is required for this role.
- 5 years of experience working with families and communities in education, nonprofit, or social service settings.
- 5 years of experience working in the library.
- Experience with EDUClimber, Infinite Campus or similar data and student information platforms strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse populations
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and holistic family support.
- Experience with Hmong language programs, bilingual education, or multilingual learner programming preferred.
- Ability to partner with teachers and provide coaching and support to teachers regarding student behavior.
- Deep commitment to educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and HOPE''s mission and strategic priorities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and community-engagement skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with scholars, families, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are performed in a school environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible. May involve movement throughout the building to support scholars in classrooms, common areas, hallways, and offices. Possible exposure to loud environments (e.g., hallways during passing periods, cafeteria, gymnasium). Some evening hours may be required for school events, family engagement activities, and cultural programs.
