A fast-growing school district located near the banks of Lake Waconia and approximately 25 miles west of Minneapolis, Waconia Public Schools serves approximately 4,000 students and their families from the communities of Waconia, Victoria, Minnetrista, Saint Bonifacius, and New Germany. School District facilities include an educational services and enrichment center, area learning center, three elementary schools (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12). The Waconia Public Schools Edible Classroom is seeking a Garden Assistant for the 2026 Summer months. This is a great opportunity for students who are enrolled in programs of Science Education, Family and Consumer Science, Agriculture Education, Horticulture, Environmental Education, or other related fields or for others who have an interest in these areas. The Edible Classroom is a thriving one-acre garden and orchard, fully integrated into the academic day at the Waconia Middle School, a public school for grades 6 - 8 in Waconia, MN. Garden classes introduce the students to the origins of food plant life cycles, community values, and the pleasures of work, while kitchen classes allow them to prepare and eat delicious, nutritious, seasonal dishes made from produce they have grown in the garden. The position will include manual labor - working outside doing landscape, gardening, harvesting and leading small tours/lessons to students within and around the WMS Edible Garden. Work Schedule: Beginning of June 2026 - Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Part-Time) Experience: Previous experience with landscaping, gardening, and farming is preferred.
