Lakeville EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-Exempt (Seasonal) POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in providing instruction, leadership, and supervision for all levels of the [sport/activity] program. This position assists in developing student-athletes as individuals and team members, viewing athletics and activities as extensions of the classroom that promote the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students. The Assistant Coach upholds the Code of Ethics and Belief Statements of Lakeville Area Schools, modeling integrity, sportsmanship, and lifelong learning. The role emphasizes collaboration, positive relationships, and helping every student reach their fullest potential both in competition and in life. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Leadership & Philosophy Support the Head Coach in implementing a clear mission, vision, and goals for the program consistent with district, school, and MSHSL standards. Uphold and promote the Lakeville Area Schools Athletics & Activities Code of Ethics and Belief Statements . Foster an inclusive, student-centered environment where effort, integrity, and respect for others are valued. Assist in developing a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and accountability. Encourage multi-sport participation and respect for all school programs and staff. Instructional & Coaching Responsibilities Assist with planning & conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions under the direction of the Head Coach. Model and teach proper techniques, strategies, and decision-making appropriate to the level of play. Provide constructive feedback to student-athletes and support their physical and emotional development. Help create a safe, supportive environment that values personal growth over outcome-based success. Demonstrate composure, professionalism, and respect during practices, games, and interactions with officials, opponents, and fans. Administrative & Operational Support Support the Head Coach with organizational tasks including equipment, facility setup, and recordkeeping. Assist with supervision of athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team-related events. Help maintain compliance with MSHSL, district, and program policies regarding eligibility, safety, and conduct. Communicate effectively with the Head Coach, Activities Office, and staff regarding team needs and student concerns. Community & Stakeholder Engagement Represent Lakeville Area Schools with professionalism and integrity in all community interactions. Build positive relationships with students, families, and community supporters. Support program efforts such as youth camps, clinics, and community service events. Serve as a role model and ambassador for the district''s mission: Student Focused, Community Connected. Professional Growth & Conduct Participate in meetings, professional development, and coaching education as required. Continue learning and refining coaching methods consistent with best practices and district expectations. Demonstrate ethical relationships with students, colleagues, and stakeholders. Display modesty in success and graciousness in defeat. Support the Head Coach and Activities Director in providing a program that reflects excellence in both education and competition. QUALIFICATIONS: Prior participation, coaching, or mentoring experience preferred. Knowledge of rules, fundamentals, and safety principles of the sport or activity. MSHSL Coaching Certification required (or ability to obtain upon employment). CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills. ?
