Must possess and display excellent human relations skills when dealing with staff, students, and community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to get along with other people and have patience in dealing with parents and students. Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to operate computer and related equipment. Ability to perform duties with awareness of applicable district requirements and Board of Education policies. Responsibilities: Assist students and teachers to locate and obtain information, materials and equipment from the IMC and from outside agencies. Make recommendations on appropriate materials and resources. Assist students with library skills; instruct students in the use of equipment. Operate computerized library system which includes printing bar codes on materials, printing library cards and keeping inventory up to date including overdo lists and supervises the circulation component (check-out, return, overdue materials). Maintain the periodical collection. Process new books, computer software, and audio/visual materials; shelve new materials and books. Supervise student behavior in the library and halls; check student passes; issue appropriate consequences for misbehavior. Train volunteers and others in shelving of books and use of computer system and procedures. Produce video recordings of school events as directed; schedule, deliver and set up AV equipment in classrooms and meeting rooms. Perform simple AV maintenance and repairs. Process orders for films, videos or other resources on various media. Perform general clerical functions in support of the media center. Monitor book inventory; provide for repair and purging of books; process orders for new books. Other duties as necessary or assigned.
