Start Your Online Application Now Position Title: Special Education Lead Teacher Department/Building : Baxter Middle School Reports to: Building Principal Assignment: 2026-2027 School Year Hours: 8 FTE, Monday through Friday, 1.1 FTE (19 extra days) Salary Range: $$46,936 - $ 90,238 (Based on education and experience; wages outlined in Certified contract located on district website ) Union - Ed MN FLSA - Overtime Exempt JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates services, communication, program structure and relations among staff and parents regarding special eduation students and acts as a liaison between department and District administration. Monitors all student records, student intake and due process information for staff. Manages crisis stuations and consults about behavior interventions. Administers student testing, as appropriate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Act as a liaison between the building special education department and administration and participate in the building level and district leadership teams (special education leadership and problem solving/RtI teams) Manage Budget for the department through purchase order review and approval, ordering department supplies (WJ III, curriculum, MCA/MTAS materials through DAC, etc) Act as a District Representative at IEP Meetings Schedule and facilitate child study team meetings and departmental meetings Attend crisis meetings Coordinate Transition from Elementary to Forestview to South Campus Assist in creating and revising master schedules Coordinate implementation of new programs Manage caseload assignments Coordinate meetings to discuss MLAP or LEC referrals, as needed Assist with special education transportation issues, as needed Supervise, manage and schedule paraprofessionals in conjunction with Building Principal Manage Parent Requests for Evaluation (schedule pre-evaluation meetings with parent, school psychologist, counselor and lead special education teacher): set up Initial paperwork IEP/ER assistance as needed Manage ER assignments/schedules and determine ER support needs MCA/MTAS coordination; scheduling and organization Modification folders for regular education teachers New students (assign case manager/team) and exiting students Sending files to "others", (social security, other schools) Coordinate ESY/Summer Transportation Provide trainings as needed (SPED Forms, Due Process) Monitor paperwork due dates/quality Provides student instruction and case management to students, as assigned/needed during staff shortage, hybrid or distance learning models All other duties as assigned by administrator QUALIFICATIONS: Current Minnesota Special Education license Knowledge of Restorative Practices and/or willingness to learn/participate in training around Restorative Practices Administrative license, preferred Minimum of three years Special Education teaching experience APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online Brainerd Public Schools uses the applicant tracking system from Frontline Education to manage employment applications online

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Minnesota Special Education license
Knowledge of Restorative Practices and/or willingness to learn/participate in training around Restorative Practices
Administrative license, preferred
Minimum of three years Special Education teaching experience
