______________________SECTION 1: GENERAL INFORMATION____________________
Position Title: Part-Time Adult Basic Education Teacher
Department/Building: Community Education/Central Lakes Community College Brainerd Campus/Crow Wing County Jail
Reports to: Director of Community Education
Position Duty Days/Contract: Up to 16 hours per week, with the potential for additional or reduced hours based on program needs and candidate availability. The work schedule is flexible; however, some instructional hours are determined by established class times, which may vary by semester.
Salary Range: $ 46,936 - $ 90,238 (Based on education and experience; wages outlined in the Certified Master Contract located on district website)
Union: Ed MN
FLSA: Overtime Exempt
_______________________SECTION II: JOB GOAL/SUMMARY_______________________
The primary objective of this position is to provide high-quality, student-centered group and individualized instruction to adult learners enrolled in Brainerd Adult Education (AE), in alignment with state AE priorities and standards. Classes are primarily held at Central Lakes College. Instruction includes core AE content across multiple levels, with an emphasis on GED preparation in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. This position serves a diverse adult learner population, including English Language Learners (ELL), and requires the ability to create an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment. Instruction should align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and support learners in developing the academic, digital literacy, and employability skills necessary to transition to postsecondary education, training, and employment. The instructor will integrate technology to support instruction, engagement, and access, including the use of distance learning platforms and digital tools. Collaboration with staff, participation in program improvement efforts, and responsiveness to student needs are essential components of this role.

- Valid MN Teacher''s License
- Previous experience with AE instruction or other experience working with adult learners in an interactive, result-oriented environment is preferred
_________SECTION IV: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES QUALIFICATIONS___________
- Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality, student-centered instruction in Adult Education aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), including preparation across all sections of the GED.
- Provide instruction to a diverse adult learner population, including English Language Learners (ELL), using culturally responsive and equitable teaching practices that support varying academic, linguistic, and learning needs.
- Assess student learning on an ongoing basis using formal and informal measures to identify strengths, needs, and progress, and to support goal setting and attainment.
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including attendance, assessments, and Personal Education Plans (PEPs), in accordance with program and state requirements.
- Integrate technology and digital learning tools into instruction to support engagement, access, and the development of digital literacy skills, including distance learning platforms.
- Support students in developing academic, digital literacy, and employability skills necessary for transition to postsecondary education, training, and employment.
- Participate in required and recommended ABE professional development at the local, regional, and state levels, including online training opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings and program improvement efforts to support student success and meet program goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the ABE Program Coordinator.
Work Environment:
Employees in this position primarily work indoors in educational settings, including a college campus and the county jail. The role involves regular interaction with students, the school district, and college staff, and external agency partners, which may include Crow Wing County Jail personnel. Duties may require standing, walking, bending, and occasional light lifting, as well as the ability to adapt to changing situations within the learning environment.
