Job Summary:
The Media Center Paraprofessional supports the daily operations of the school media center by assisting students and staff in accessing media resources, maintaining organization of materials, and promoting a welcoming learning environment. The position assists with circulation procedures, inventory management, makerspace supervision, and general media center support to encourage literacy, engagement, and student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates the Destiny library system to circulate media materials.
- Checks materials in and out to students and staff.
- Maintains accurate circulation records and generates reports as needed.
- Monitors and follows up on overdue materials.
Assists students and staff in accessing media center resources.
- Helps students locate books and instructional materials.
- Assists students with book selection and resource use.
- Supports staff in locating and checking out materials.
Maintains organization and functionality of the media center.
- Shelves returned books and corrects shelving errors.
- Labels, repairs, and processes new materials.
- Assists with inventory of media center resources.
- Maintains clean and organized shelves, tables, and seating areas.
Supervises and supports students during media center use.
- Monitors student behavior and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Supervises students utilizing the Makerspace during open media times.
- Encourages responsible use of media center materials and equipment.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A combination of equivalent education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with students, libraries, media centers, or educational support environments preferred. Familiarity with library circulation systems and technology preferred.
Essential Knowledge And Specialized Subject Knowledge Required To Perform The Essential Functions Of The Job:
- Knowledge of basic library and media center procedures.
- Knowledge of computer applications and student information systems.
- Familiarity with Destiny library management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of organization and inventory procedures.
- Understanding of student supervision and behavior expectations in a school setting.
- Knowledge of makerspace tools, resources, and student engagement strategies preferred.
Essential Skills Necessary To Perform The Work:
- Assisting students and staff in a courteous and supportive manner.
- Organizing and maintaining materials and records accurately.
- Operating computer systems and circulation software effectively.
- Communicating effectively with students, staff, and families.
- Maintaining confidentiality of student and district information.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, and the public.
- Managing multiple responsibilities and prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Work Environment:
Work responsibilities are performed in a typical school and media center setting. The position requires frequent interaction with students, staff, and visitors throughout the school day.
Physical Job Requirements:
Employees are continuously required to talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel objects and materials; frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, or sit for extended periods of time. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
