Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School District #435 is seeking an Ojibwe Language and Culture Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Ojibwe Language and Culture Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering culturally responsive instruction in Ojibwe language and culture for early childhood through 3rd-grade students. Responsibilities include:
- Developing lesson plans that integrate Ojibwe language, traditions, stories, values, and cultural teachings.
- Providing engaging instruction using culturally meaningful teaching methods and materials.
- Supporting students in developing an appreciation for Ojibwe identity, heritage, and community connections.
- Assessing student progress in language acquisition and cultural understanding.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers, families, elders, community members, and district staff to support student learning and cultural enrichment initiatives.
- Participating in curriculum development that aligns with district goals and Indigenous education standards.
Essential Functions
- Delivers Ojibwe language and culture instruction aligned with district curriculum and community values.
- Creates culturally responsive lessons and activities that support diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporates storytelling, music, art, traditions, seasonal teachings, and land-based learning into instruction when appropriate.
- Assesses student learning and adjusts instruction to meet student needs.
- Maintains a respectful, safe, and inclusive classroom environment rooted in positive relationships and cultural respect.
- Collaborates with colleagues, families, elders, and community partners to enhance student learning and cultural awareness.
- Participates in school events, cultural activities, committees, and IEP meetings as needed.
- Engages in ongoing professional development related to Ojibwe language revitalization, culturally responsive teaching, and instructional practices.
- Provides leadership and support to paraprofessionals and instructional support staff when appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the Ojibwe language, traditions, cultural values, and history.
- Understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices and Indigenous education.
- Ability to develop engaging, age-appropriate instructional materials and lessons.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, elders, staff, and community members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to integrate technology and creative instructional strategies into teaching.
- Commitment to supporting student growth, cultural identity, and academic success.
Supervision of Other Employees:
While this position does not entail direct supervision of other employees, it does provide indirect supervision for the Paraprofessional(s) in the classroom.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor''s Degree in Education and a relevant instructional subject area(s).
License:
Licensed in the State of Minnesota in the instructional area.
Experience:
Experience teaching Ojibwe language and culture, working with Indigenous communities, or providing culturally responsive instruction preferred.
