Reports To: Director of Activities and Advancement
Position Overview
The Assistant Athletic Director plays a key role in shaping student life at LILA by supporting athletic and co-curricular programs that reflect our commitment to intercultural understanding, inclusion, and the IB learner profile.
This position is ideal for someone who values student-centered programming and thrives in a collaborative school environment. The Assistant Athletic Director helps create meaningful opportunities for students to grow as leaders, teammates, and global citizens through well-organized and mission-aligned activities.
Core Responsibilities
Program Coordination
- Coordinate scheduling for practices, competitions, clubs, and enrichment opportunities
- Ensure compliance with MSHSL rules and student eligibility requirements
- Maintain accurate records, rosters, and documentation
- Promote equitable access to activities across language pathways and grade levels
Coaching & Advisor Support
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and supporting coaches and activity advisors
- Track and monitor required certifications (CPR, First Aid, concussion training)
- Reinforce expectations aligned with LILA''s mission and IB learner profile
- Serve as a coach or advisor as needed
Facilities & Equipment
- Coordinate facility usage and event logistics
- Manage equipment inventory, ordering, and distribution
- Ensure safe, inclusive, and well-maintained activity spaces
Community & Student Engagement
- Organize parent meetings, athletic recognitions, and celebration events
- Maintain the athletics and activities calendar and communication channels
- Partner with the marketing team to highlight student achievements and experiences
Collaboration & Site Coordination
- Work closely with the AAA Assistant/Facilities Coordinator and Site Supervisors
- Provide day-to-day coordination, communication, and task direction to ensure smooth program operations
- Support alignment across athletics, activities, and facility usage
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor''s degree or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years of experience in athletic coordination, coaching, or student activities
- Knowledge of MSHSL regulations
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred
- Experience in IB or immersion school environments
- Minnesota coaching or teaching licensure
- Multilingual skills
Physical & Schedule Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during practices, events, and competitions
- Ability to move between buildings and outdoor spaces in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to approximately 25–40 pounds (e.g., sports equipment, supplies)
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform general physical tasks associated with event setup and coordination
- Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods
- Ability to attend and support evening and occasional weekend events
Compensation
- Salary Range: $25,000 – $30,000 (0.5 FTE)
