Reports To Executive Director / Special Education Director Employment Type Full-time, 10-month, Exempt Contracted Days 185 days, as outlined in the 26-27 School Calendar POSITION SUMMARY The Special Education Teacher leads the design and delivery of specialized instruction and IEP-driven supports so that every learner at Exploration High School can access our competency-based, project-based model. This role partners closely with Instructional Teams, families, related service providers, and the ExHS Special Education Director to ensure compliance with IDEA, Minnesota Rule Chapter 3525, and applicable MN Statutes while centering student dignity, voice, and growth. ROLE MODEL & MISSION ALIGNMENT All ExHS staff serve as role models for our students and families. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Minnesota Rule Chapter 3525, and meet all deadlines. Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations within the Minnesota 30-school-day timeline after parental consent; complete all Due Process paperwork on time and at high quality. Co-plan and co-teach with Instructional Team teachers to embed accommodations and modifications into HQPBL and competency-based learning. Facilitate IEP meetings, progress reporting, and family communication; participate in CST (Child Study Team) meetings. Deliver direct and indirect specialized instruction aligned to student goals. Develop Positive Behavior Support Plans and lead Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs); comply with MN restraint and seclusion reporting requirements per MN Stat §125A.0941?0942. Participate in Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs) for disciplinary events. Collaborate with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, mental health) to coordinate student services. Lead transition planning for post-secondary success (per MN transition requirements). Contribute documentation supporting Third-Party Billing / Medical Assistance (MA) for eligible services. Maintain accurate, timely special education documentation in SpedForms, JMC SPED, or EDRS (as used at ExHS); support Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) indicators. Serve as a mandated reporter under the Staff Handbook and Minn. Stat §626.556; support anti-bullying and restorative responses. ANY OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned by the Executive Director or designated supervisor in support of students, families, staff, and the mission of Exploration High School. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor?s degree required; Master?s in Special Education preferred. Valid Minnesota Special Education license (ABS, LD, EBD, DCD, or related). Minimum of two (2) years of K?12 special education experience preferred. Strong working knowledge of IDEA, Minnesota Rule Chapter 3525, due process timelines, and MN SPED compliance. Experience with SpedForms, JMC SPED, or EDRS preferred. Successful completion of background check and I-9 verification. CORE COMPETENCIES Expert knowledge of specialized instruction and assessment. Occasionally assist with student mobility, adaptive equipment, or de-escalation ? following training and ExHS protocol. Occasionally lift, push, or carry materials up to 25 pounds. Occasional evening or weekend work for IEP meetings, SLCs, and school events.
