Start Your Online Application Now Hutchinson Public Schools is seeking Special Education Assistants to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond. This position will work 165-175 days per year based on the school calendar and training and approximately 6.5 hours per day. The salary range for this position is $18.52 per hour - $21.02 per hour. Salary is dependent upon education and experience. Special Education Assistants at the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) are responsible for assisting students who are on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) by providing support, explanation, re-teaching and instructional help for students throughout the day under the direction and support of the Special Education Teachers. The primary role of this position is to provide vocational support to interns in the community job site setting. Additional responsibilities include providing support during classroom instruction and independent living activities. This position will require a strong ability to communicate effectively with a variety of persons both in and out of the school environment. Willingness to learn a variety of entry level job skills in collaboration with community business partners is a large part of this position. The Special Education Assistant is expected to: Follow guidelines for helping to implement IEP goals as provided by the teacher. Utilize effective written and oral communication skills. Maintain regular communication with teachers, students, co-workers and business partners. Participate in professional development activities as scheduled. Assist in student learning of job skills in the work environment. Utilize a weekly job skills report to assess student learning. Possess basic computer skills Engage in problem-solving concerns with and for student progress while meeting the expectations of job site management. Provide supervision of students as assigned. Be a positive role model and advocate in all settings Possess an understanding of how to support learning for young adults with a variety of disabilities. Responsible for providing accommodations for students in the workplace. Assisting with the learning of independent living skills Assist teachers with other duties as assigned.
