As an assistant principal in Bloomington Public Schools, you will serve this mission by co-creating and implementing equitable systems and ensuring learning for each student. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, coaching, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective family, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers, students and families.
YOUR IMPACT
- Assist the principal in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader.
- Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
- Continually monitor student progress and outcomes; collaborate with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.
- Develop and support a high-performing staff through effective hiring, evaluation, coaching, training, and mentoring practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, school board policies, and district procedures.
- Supervise instructional programs to ensure effective instructional strategies, curriculum implementation, and alignment with research-based practices.
- Foster a safe, positive learning environment that promotes student and staff accountability and ownership.
- Model ethical leadership, professionalism, and positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Assist with school scheduling, goal implementation, instructional material selection, data analysis, instructional improvement planning, and special program development.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to support continuous growth and school improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support school operations and student success.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Current Minnesota K–12/Secondary Principal License.
- Minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching or related school experience.
- Demonstrated success as a culturally responsive instructional leader with a clear vision for student achievement and school improvement.
- Commitment to valuing diversity, adapting to diverse needs, and effectively managing the dynamics of difference.
- Expertise in educational best practices, instructional leadership, and continuous improvement processes.
- Ability to analyze student performance data and use findings to drive instructional decisions and improve outcomes.
- Strong talent development skills, including hiring, evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and staff development.
- Knowledge of educational laws, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to hold self and others accountable to high professional standards and expectations.
- Exemplary professional ethics, integrity, and judgment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with students, families, staff, supervisors, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to establish a positive school climate and support safe, inclusive learning environments.
- Effective organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills to support school operations and strategic goals.
REQUIRED LICENSURE:
Current Minnesota Teaching License
Current Minnesota Principal License
PAY:
Based on experience and education. Please refer to Principal Contract
