Position Summary
The K-12 Principal serves as the chief educational leader of the district''s PreK-12 instructional program. The principal is responsible for fostering a positive school culture, promoting student achievement, supervising and evaluating staff, supporting professional growth, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements, and leading the district''s curriculum, assessment, MTSS, and continuous improvement efforts.
The K-12 Principal provides leadership for teaching and learning across all grade levels while overseeing daily building operations, student discipline, staff supervision and evaluation, instructional improvement, and implementation of district initiatives. The principal works collaboratively with district administration, teachers, support staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure a safe, supportive, and high performing learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Provide leadership for the district''s PreK-12 instructional program.
Lead implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention systems.
Coordinate the district curriculum cycle, including curriculum review, alignment, adoption, implementation, and evaluation of instructional resources.
Collaborate with instructional staff to ensure alignment with Minnesota Academic Standards, district priorities, and student learning needs.
Support development of rigorous course offerings, instructional programming, career pathways, and college and career readiness opportunities.
Lead analysis and use of student achievement data to improve instructional outcomes and support continuous improvement efforts.
Facilitate instructional leadership teams and school improvement initiatives.
Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) and instructional collaboration.
Legislative Programs, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement
Provide leadership for implementation of state and federal educational initiatives, accountability systems, and legislative requirements.
Collaborate with district staff to ensure compliance with Minnesota Department of Education requirements and federal education regulations.
Support implementation of literacy initiatives, Multi Tiered Systems of Support, Comprehensive Achievement and Civic Readiness planning, and other state and federal initiatives.
Collaborate with district staff to ensure successful administration of state and local assessments
and implementation of required accountability measures.
Monitor academic, behavioral, attendance, engagement, and program data to guide district improvement efforts.
Assist with preparation of reports, documentation, improvement plans, and required submissions associated with state and federal programs.
Stay informed regarding legislative changes, emerging educational requirements, and best practices and assist in planning for implementation within the district.
Personnel Leadership and Human Resources
Supervise and evaluate licensed and non licensed staff in accordance with district procedures, state requirements, and negotiated agreements.
Conduct formal and informal observations, teacher evaluations, coaching conversations, and professional growth planning designed to improve instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.
Provide timely feedback, support, and accountability to staff regarding performance expectations and professional responsibilities.
Assist with recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and retention of staff. Promote a positive workplace culture characterized by professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Lead and support professional learning aligned with district goals, instructional priorities, and staff development needs.
Collaborate with the Superintendent regarding personnel recommendations, staffing assignments, corrective action, and employment decisions.
Provide leadership and support to teacher leaders, deans, counselors, and support staff.
Student Services and School Climate
Lead student discipline systems and behavioral supports in collaboration with staff and families. Supervise attendance initiatives and student engagement efforts.
Collaborate with student support personnel to ensure students receive appropriate academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support.
Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
Serve as the administrative lead for school safety planning, emergency response, and crisis management.
Promote a positive school culture that supports academic achievement, student engagement, and belonging.
Maintain visibility throughout district programs, classrooms, activities, and events.
Budget and Resource Management
Develop and manage building and instructional budgets.
Monitor expenditures and resource allocation to ensure responsible stewardship of district resources.
Make recommendations regarding instructional materials, staffing, technology, and program investments.
Collaborate with district leadership to align financial resources with strategic priorities and student needs.
Family and Community Relations
Develop positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members. Communicate district priorities, initiatives, and student achievement information. Respond to parent and community concerns in a timely and professional manner. Represent the district at community meetings, activities, and events.
Foster partnerships that support student success and strengthen community engagement.
Organizational and District Leadership
Serve as a member of the District Administrative Team.
Collaborate with district leadership to establish and implement district goals and priorities.
Oversee daily operations of district educational programs.
Ensure compliance with district policies, procedures, and administrative expectations. Collaborate with district leadership regarding transportation, food service, facilities, technology, safety, and operational planning.
Provide reports and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education. Participate in strategic planning and long range planning related to enrollment, staffing, programming, facilities, and district initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications
Required
Minnesota Principal License.
Master''s Degree in Educational Leadership or a related field. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, MTSS, school improvement, and educational leadership.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
Preferred
Experience as a principal, assistant principal, dean, curriculum director, or other instructional leadership position.
Experience conducting teacher evaluations and supporting professional growth.
Experience leading school improvement initiatives.
Experience with state and federal educational programs and accountability systems. Experience supervising licensed and non licensed staff.
Experience supporting early childhood and PreK programming.
Compensation
Salary is set per contract for the 2026-2027 year.
