MILACA PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION Elementary General Music Teacher Reports to: Elementary Principal Dept: Elementary Terms: 182 days/yr Apply @ https://jobs.redroverk12.com/org/milacapublicschools JOB SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the elementary principal, facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills. Implements district approved curriculum. Documents teaching and student progress, and addresses the specific educational needs of individual students. Creates a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university in elementary education or relative discipline applicable to teacher assignment MN Teaching License in Vocal and Classroom Music or Instrumental and Classroom Music Preferred Work Experience: Experience teaching in an elementary school setting is preferred Special Knowledge/Essential Skills: Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed Ability to organize and communicate effectively with students and parents Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of the work ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum and Instruction: Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Develops and administers elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning. Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws as well as administrative regulations and procedures or the school system. Ensures that student conduct conforms with school?s standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation. Assessments and Record-Keeping: Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping on grading and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs. Collaboration & Communication: Encourages parental involvement in students? education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the education field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within applicable grade levels, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Physical Demands: Repetitive movement: Teachers use their fingers and hands for keyboarding and other repetitive movements. Working near others: Teachers often work within a few feet of others, and may be exposed to loud noises and diseases. Adapting to different surfaces: Teachers may need to move quickly over different surfaces, such as asphalt, grass, or the playground. Teachers also need to have physical stamina and be able to keep up with students physically, mentally, and emotionally. Movement: Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and bending. Teachers often stand or walk for long periods of time, and may need to run on occasion. Walking: Teachers may need to walk around the building or walk on uneven ground outdoors. Lifting: Lifting or moving objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds Reaching: Teachers may need to reach with their hands and arms Vision: Close vision for reading, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus Hearing: Hearing and understanding speech at normal classroom levels Speaking: Speaking in audible tones Manual dexterity: Using fingers to grasp, move, or assemble small objects, and assist students Stamina: Using stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods Focus: Focusing on one source of sound and ignoring others Other physical demands may include: moving between indoor and outdoor environments, climbing stairs, and working in a moderate to loud environment.
