Position: Special Education Support Professional (Paraprofessional)
Hours or FTE: Approximately 7:45 AM - 3 PM
Starting Date: August 24, 2026
Job Description: Stewartville School District is seeking dedicated Special Education Support Professionals (Paraprofessionals) to support students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum, participating in school activities, and making meaningful progress toward their educational goals. Under the direction of licensed staff, this position assists in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), providing academic, behavioral, social, and personal care support, and promoting student independence. Responsibilities may include assisting with hygiene and personal care needs, implementing behavior support and crisis intervention plans, collecting student data, supervising students across a variety of school settings, and collaborating with teachers and related service providers to maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. The successful candidate demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, patience, and a commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and dignity.
Qualifications/Degree:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is preferred
- Associate degree, 60 college credits, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment is preferred
Special Job Requirements:
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and respond quickly to student needs throughout the school day.
- Lift, transfer, or assist with moving up to 40 pounds.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families through listening, speaking, and observing.
- Support students in academic, behavioral, social, and functional activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with students and staff.
Beginning Salary Range: Rate of pay starting at $15.50/hour as per Master Agreement. The starting rate of pay is dependent upon prior experience.
