SUMMARY The Part-Time Special Education Teacher at North Middle School provides specially designed instruction and case management services to students receiving special education, with a primary emphasis on improving reading and written expression skills. Services are provided through a combination of direct instruction in a special education setting and collaborative instruction within a co-taught general education Language Arts classroom. The successful candidate will support students primarily in Federal Settings I and II by implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering evidence-based literacy instruction, and collaborating closely with general education teachers to ensure students have meaningful access to grade-level curriculum. The teacher will utilize data-driven instructional practices to develop students'' foundational reading skills, reading comprehension, written language, organization, and written communication. The ideal candidate demonstrates knowledge of a broad range of educational disabilities and understands how those disabilities impact literacy development and academic performance. The individual possesses strong instructional design skills, experience with assessment and progress monitoring, and an understanding of due process requirements related to the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Qualified applicants will demonstrate the ability to provide differentiated instruction through multiple teaching modalities, collaborate effectively within a team-teaching environment, and foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, strong communication skills, collaborative leadership, and a commitment to creating an inclusive educational environment that promotes both academic achievement and social-emotional growth. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This class specification lists the major duties and responsibilities of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may be assigned additional duties as needed. Provide specially designed instruction in reading and written expression aligned with each student''s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Deliver individualized, small-group, and classroom-based instruction utilizing district-approved curriculum and evidence-based literacy practices. Co-plan and co-teach within a general education Language Arts classroom to support students'' access to grade-level instruction while implementing appropriate accommodations and modifications. Collaborate regularly with Language Arts teachers to design instructional supports, adapt curriculum, and monitor student progress. Utilize assessment data to identify student needs, develop measurable IEP goals, monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that address students'' individual learning needs while maintaining high academic expectations. Evaluate students'' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress; maintain accurate records; and complete required progress reporting in a timely manner. Serve as the case manager for assigned students by coordinating IEP implementation, facilitating communication among team members, and ensuring compliance with state and federal special education requirements. Establish and maintain a positive, structured learning environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and academic success. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, emails, phone calls, progress reports, and other appropriate methods. Coordinate and supervise the work of paraprofessionals supporting students during instructional activities. Collaborate with related service providers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive supports for students. Participate in grade-level, department, building, and special education team meetings. Maintain professional knowledge and instructional practices through ongoing professional development, coursework, and district training. Promote and support the mission of Hopkins Public Schools by demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, respect, and effective communication with students, families, colleagues, and community members. Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certifications in active status without suspension or revocation.
