Position: Transportation Safety Trainer
Salary: $56,000 - $61,000
Location: Transportation Building
Hours: Monday - Friday; 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Fluent in verbal and written Spanish preferred.
- School bus driving experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Minnesota CDL driver license with school bus and passenger endorsement within 3 months of hire.
- Ability to obtain certification in Smith system training within 6 months.
- Ability to be certified in "reasonable suspicion" within 6 months.
- Ability to demonstrate successful public relation skills.
- Ability to supervise and direct staff as needed.
- Knowledge of Federal and State Guidelines for the safe transportation of students.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide an ongoing safety program for all transportation employees.
- Train transportation employees, administrators and students on proper policy and procedure regarding transportation.
- Assist with the employment process of new drivers and bus aides including all necessary training and licenses.
- Maintain and update the driver/monitor policy and procedure manual on an annual basis.
- Review video records on a regular basis, and report, follow-up and re-train staff as needed.
- Maintain a complete and accurate record regarding student bus conduct and school bus stop arm violations.
- Assist with the administration of random drug testing of staff, and maintain and update records as needed.
- Analyze bus stops and routes for safety related concerns, and recommend changes to router and transportation manager.
- Organize and direct an accident review panel for the transportation department, and investigate accidents and conduct follow-up training.
- Perform safety compliance evaluations for drivers including ride along, video reviews and bus inspections for cleanliness and safety violations.
- Implement and maintain pupil load counts on a bi-monthly basis.
- Direct drivers in proper bus stop procedures and 8-way usage.
- Schedule and oversee emergency school bus evacuation drills twice each school year for students at all grade levels.
- Develop and implement parking charts at all schools, and assist drivers and monitors related to safety at and around school bus parking lots.
- Assist the transportation router by setting up transportation for students in our routing software when needed.
- Assist in scheduling Field Trips when needed.
- Serve as a contact for the transportation department; answering incoming phone calls from schools and parents, managing base-radio dispatch, and providing real-time support to drivers in the field.
