JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Music Teacher
The primary objective of this role is the creation and delivery of a sequential K-8 music curriculum that adheres to the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts. This educator will foster an inclusive atmosphere dedicated to the growth of musical literacy and performance capabilities while encouraging students to connect deeply with the arts through critical analysis and creative expression.
Environmental Education / STEM Teacher
This position aims to inspire environmental stewardship and core STEM competencies through hands-on, immersive instruction. By developing an interdisciplinary curriculum that bridges natural resource conservation with scientific inquiry, the teacher aligns daily learning with state standards. Students are empowered to explore local ecological systems and human impacts, fostering a lasting dedication to community sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Music Teacher Performance Responsibilities:
●Teaches general music to grades Pk-8.
●Plans daily classroom work based on a teaching outline prepared for the course of study to meet curriculum requirements.
●Evaluates students'' interests, aptitudes, temperament, and individual characteristics to determine suitable instruments for beginners.
●Sings or plays instruments to demonstrate musical scales, tones, and rhythm.
●Instructs students in music theory, harmony, score and sight reading, composition, music appreciation, and provides individual or group vocal and instrumental lessons using technical knowledge, aesthetic appreciation, and prescribed teaching techniques.
●May conduct group rehearsals and instruct and coach members in their individual parts, in fundamentals of musicianship, and ensemble performance.
●Critiques performance to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
●Leads instrumental and choral groups in regular and special performances for school programs, plays, community activities, concerts, and/or festivals.
●Meets with students and parents if needed to resolve student problems.
●May accompany students on field trips.
●Orders, stores, and inventories musical instruments and other music supplies.

●Participates in parent/student conferences.
●Assesses and monitors student learning outcomes according to MN standards
●Articulates clear statements of learning standards and outcomes.

STEM/EE Teacher Performance Responsibilities:
Outdoor Classroom & School Forest Instruction
Conduct academic lessons directly in the school forest and outdoor classroom, adapting instruction for all Minnesota weather conditions. Guide students in forestry foundations, including tree identification, native wildlife tracking, and local ecosystem interactions.
Teach phenology and data collection, guiding students to track, record, and analyze regional seasonal changes and native plant life cycles.
Establish, teach, and enforce strict outdoor classroom boundary markers, safety rules, and proper tool-handling expectations for early elementary learners. Prepare and educate students on proper cold-weather and all-weather clothing strategies to ensure safety and comfort during extended outdoor learning. Site Stewardship & Management
Serve as the primary site coordinator for the school''s designated forest, ensuring it functions as a safe, high-yield learning asset.
Collaborate with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) School Forest Program to implement and maintain the site''s official forest stewardship plan.
STEM Integration & Curriculum Design
Develop and implement an integrated, hands-on curriculum that merges environmental science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.
Align all instructional units with the Minnesota Academic Standards in Science (including the Next Generation Science Standards framework) and the Minnesota Environmental Literacy Scope and Sequence.
Design projects that challenge young learners to solve real-world engineering problems using natural, recycled, or lab materials.
Facilitate introductory coding, robotics, digital data collection, and makerspace activities tailored specifically for early elementary development. Partner with Sourcewell Ed. Tech, utilizing their vast resources
Assessment, Collaboration, & Community
Develop formative and summative assessments that measure a student''s understanding of the engineering design process and ecological concepts. Collaborate with core classroom teachers to connect STEM and environmental lessons with grade-level reading, math, and social studies units.
Works with Community Engagement Coordinators to plan school-wide environmental initiatives, such as recycling programs, school forest activities, or Earth Day events.
Act as the primary liaison to the school''s DNR-assigned Forester, local conservation groups, and regional nature centers

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Music Teacher
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related field is mandatory
A valid Minnesota Teaching License specifically in Music Education
Experience:
At least one year of professional experience instructing, mentoring, or advocating for youth in an academic environment
Knowledge/Skills:
Comprehensive grasp of the Minnesota Academic Standards and the MTSS framework
Proficiency in designing and executing high-quality instructional plans
Proven capability to organize priorities and handle diverse responsibilities through both independent and team-based efforts
Technology Proficiency:
High level of comfort utilizing educational platforms and Google Workspace applications (Drive, Docs, Meet, and Calendar)
Aptitude for imaginative technology integration within the classroom and school, including an openness to exploring AI and other innovative tools
Personal Attributes:
Deep dedication to the principles of environmental education and achieving meaningful community influence alongside superior communication skills
A track record of clear and effective interaction with both staff and families across various communication platforms

Environmental Education / STEM Teacher
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a field such as Elementary Education, Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, or STEM Education
A current and valid Minnesota Teaching License
Experience:
Minimum of one year spent teaching, advising, or working directly with youth within an educational or advocacy framework
Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough understanding of the current Minnesota Academic Standards
Skill in crafting effective and engaging instructional strategies
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage varied tasks through both independent initiative and collaborative teamwork
Technology Proficiency:
Demonstrated competency in using educational technology, particularly Google Workspace tools like Drive, Docs, Meet, and Calendar
A commitment to integrating modern tools, such as AI, into instructional practices and operations with a focus on future-ready learning
Personal Attributes:
Dedication to fostering environmental stewardship and community impact alongside excellent written and oral communication

WORKING CONDITIONS
● In-person work environment with a typical 4-8-hour workday from 7:30-3:30 or 7:45-3:45.
● Some before or after school meetings will be expected
● Annual schedule includes 175 workdays (prorated based on start date), including school and professional development days
● Frequent sitting and hand use (e.g., typing, computer work) required
● Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and crouching
● Occasionally required to lift and carry materials up to 25 lbs
● Occasional travel may be required for additional professional development or training
● Requires strong organization, independent time management, and the ability to collaborate with staff and leadership

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Agreement: 175 days School Calendar Days 165 teaching, 10 Professional Development
Schedule: 4-8 hours per day; general business hours are 7:45 am to 3:45 pm or 7:30 am to 3:30 pm with flexibility as needed Position Type: In Person - at the school building
Technology Requirements: Must maintain and regularly update Google Calendar, utilize documents and other processes, as the school uses Google Workspace
Meeting Requirements: Must attend all required weekly meetings, including department, MTSS, and full staff meetings
