School-Age Child Care Program Lead
Department: Community Education: School-Age Care Program
Reports to: Child Care Coordinator
Location: West End Early Learning Center - 1515 11th St., International Falls, MN 56649
Pay:
● $18.39 - $21.64 per hour Dependent on Qualifications and Experience
● Part-time, not benefit eligible
Hours of Work:
● After School (September - May) Monday - Friday, 2:00PM - 6:00PM; summer employment
● 20 hours per week
● Hours may be limited by inclement weather and school closures.
Job Description:
This position assists in the planning, development, and coordination of Bronco Kids Care, ISD 361’s school-age care program serving children K-5th grade. This position gives work direction to assistant child care staff and leads programming provided after school and during the summer at West End Early Learning Center, ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for all participants and families.
Key Responsibilities:
● Provide direct supervision and care for school-age children in accordance with program policies.
● Plan and implement developmentally appropriate education, recreational, and enrichment activities.
● Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
● Build positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, and school staff.
● Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times.
● Set up, organize, clean, and maintain classrooms, activity spaces, and playgrounds.
● Supervise indoor and outdoor play, ensuring equipment, and environments remain safe.
● Observe and document children’s behavior and incidents as required.
● Model positive behavior guidance techniques and implement behavior management strategies consistent with program expectations.
● Participate in staff meetings, required training, and professional development opportunities.
● Operate technology and program software as needed.
● Perform light cleaning duties including: sanitizing toys, cleaning tables, and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
● Follow all district policies and Community Education procedures, including reporting safety concerns, maintenance needs, and mandated reporting.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Child Care Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Knowledge of child development, including developmentally appropriate practices for preschool and school age children.
● Knowledge of positive behavior guidance and classroom management techniques.
● Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation practices applicable to school-age care settings.
● Basic understanding of social-emotional learning and inclusive practices for children of varying abilities and backgrounds.
● Effective verbal and written communication skills.
● Basic computer skills, including email, attendance systems, and other Community Education software.
● Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment for all children and families.
● Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
● Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 40 pounds, and actively participating in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
Education/Certification Requirements:
● Required:
○ High School Diploma or Equivalent
○ First Aid and CPR (offered by district upon hire)
○ Must successfully complete a background check
● Preferred:
○ Associate’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Recreation, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
○ Previous experience working in a licensed childcare program, preschool, school-age care, Community Education program, or Out-of-School Time.
○ Experience working with children of different ages, diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, and physical needs.
○ Demonstrate commitment to creating equitable, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments.
